I had a real moment in my Norwegian language class. Kommode in Norwegian means a dresser. Not, like, the other thing.
That’s similar to another common meaning in older English, too - it denotes a small low chest of drawers. Both are convenient, in different ways.

I guess there’s lots of these terms for furniture that are quite situational, like “coffee table” or “ottoman”.
