D&D 5E (2014) Solasta 2 Announced!!!

I think the big issue I had with the Soraks was that they were just so unvaried. They had the occasional big one who was tougher, and some spellcasters here and there from memory, but they were just lizardman poison enthusiasts in the end, they were a bunch of undifferentiated fanatics so there weren't any of them who you could talk to or understand their point of view or negotiate with/manipulate, and there wasn't even a single memorable boss enemy in the final fight. They were just dull, both narratively and mechanically.
Right. Absolutely lacking in personality, in a way that some of the subsidiary villains (green dragon, vampire lady) weren’t. As evil shapechangers there was so much potential for some sneaky love-to-hate villains, but as soon as the mask drops they revert to generic lizard #5.
(Funny you mention off-brand vampires - Solasta 1 had one of those in the library I think, and for me it was the toughest fight in the game and gave me the only TPK after a couple of fumbles early when i was still learning the system. Even the final fight I got through ok, despite not taking my vast store of hoarded potions before getting too close and rolling initiative, and despite one of the 'friendly' dragon allies reducing my monk to single-digit hp with a breath weapon in the first round of combat...)
I love the importance of light and vision in the vampire (and Soraks, to be fair) fights - makes you aware of lighting in a way that you don’t have to be in most cRPGs.

Sure, but still better than generic orcs or zombies.

I actually had a lot of issues with darkness not working right. For instance the Daylight spell should banish darkness, and it doesn't. Also even with the relevant setting changed, darkness still didnt really stop line of sight reliably.

Still, better than it being ignored.

And in S2 so far cunning action doesnt let you hide as a bonus action, which...is a huge problem for my rogues.
