AI/LLMs AI art bans are going to ruin small 3rd party creators

When I check the sources in Wikipedia, they have (so far) always been consistent with the information provided in the Wikipedia article.

My point was that once upon a time Wikipedia had lots of errors, and people made a lot of noise how you couldn't possible trust it. But people used it anyway, the world didn't end, and Wikipedia got better over time.

Sure, but the process by which Wikipedia and AI obtain their information are very different - they will not necessarily progress in the same manner. Also, while overuse of online resources such as Wikipedia may have compromised peoples’ ability to remember basic facts, I worry the use of AI will compromise peoples’ critical thinking, which I think is a far worse problem. Perhaps I’m just being a cranky old man.

Once upon a time leeches has a lot of errors when used in medicine, and people didn't make a lot of noise how you couldn't possible trust it. And people used it anyway, and lots of people died, and people stopped using it over time.

We can all do that little rhetorical trick to prove why slavish adherence to the latest technology can be the best thing ever or the worst thing ever. But maybe we should all just stop reciting these tired tropes which are, let's face it, just noise... and say something new. :)

Sometimes technological avenues don't work out. And not just leeches! Looking at you, Concorde...

Considering how much AI has improved year-over-year I'm kind of puzzled by predictions that it will never be any good.

But I guess we'll all find out in a relatively short time....
