Watching someone stream shipbuilding in Starfield and suddenly I really want a game that is a combination of Deep Space 9 and The Sims. Ships are basically lots that you can fly directly to other "neighbourhoods" (starbases). And of course you could also live out of an apartment on a starbase.

I think Eve online was working on being able to get out of ships. Im not sure if that ever happened. I stopped doing MMOs back in 2010.

Yes that would be amazing.

Indie/small AA game devs love to make a game that's about managing a space station or spaceship and the people on it, and then make it completely unfun somehow, or to add a bunch of elements that prevent it being "The Sims: Deep Space 9". Also somehow the Sims has never done a "Everyone is living on a big spaceship/space station" expansion, even though it's incredibly obvious as a concept.

It's part of why this thread exists really, I swear, there are loads of fairly obvious game concepts but devs will take this obvious concept, which is like, "vanilla + chocolate" and then go "Hmmm but I must make it mine, so it's vanilla + chocolate + shredded fresh garlic! ENJOY!".
