Name some faerie alternatives for a new species?

How about "Seelie" (for nicer faerie folk) and "Unseelie" (for the darker kind)?

    Marvel Multiverse RPG Alternate Covers

So rolling 6 - 1 - 6, or "13" is a good thing? First time that I have seen them consider 13 as good luck. :D I will be interested to see how this game shapes up.

    White Dwarf Reflections #5

1978 - when I had been playing Chivalry & Sorcery for a year already, very cool to see this game mentioned here. :)

Looking for other games like A Quiet Year

"The Quiet Year" looks like a board game although the players draw their own map based on actions set forth by the game and a deck of 52 cards that correspond to the 52 weeks of the year. The period is set in a time right after a long war and before a major calamity...

    RPGs and doubling scales

With this scale, humans would tend to fall between the scores of 5 to 9. 10 would be the maximum that I would allow for humans anyway. What makes games appealing to many, however, is the opportunity to roll dice. It's that element of chance that brings gamers (and gamblers) to tables. So...

New User Introduction to Fantasy Grounds

Nice! I will check out the link to the video then. I've been curious about Fantasy Grounds and this sounds like it could be useful. (y)

Review of Paleomythic, RPG of Stone and Sorcery

Thank you for the detailed explanation, Aldarc! :) Rolling five or six dice gives a decent chance of getting at least one six then. And with additional attacks that adds even more chances to hit. I appreciate the help.

Review of Paleomythic, RPG of Stone and Sorcery

It seems to me that success doesn't come by that often if it all hinges on you rolling a six without an offsetting one. In Shadowrun you roll a lot of dice and fives AND sixes contribute to the success of your attempt. In a lot of games, I can get a feel for my chances of a successful roll. I...

Any old timers out there willing to help with a Master's thesis?

I was introduced to role-playing games back in early 1978 when someone showed me Chivalry & Sorcery (by Fantasy Games Unlimited). Wow, now I could design fantasy characters that previously I had only read about! I loved drawing maps – drew a 4’ x 4’ dungeon on some large grid paper and ran my...

What is the real name of the Wu Jen from Chinese folklore?

I would go with "Fangshi" (方士) that is defined as "Method-master" that the early Chinese used for people they saw as alchemists, astrologers, doctors, mystics and wizards. Wikipedia has more detail. I knew my copy of the RPG Qin - The Warring States would be good for something! :-D

Official Character Sheets for Captains Kirk, Picard and Other Enterprise Crew

I wish that they used the same font for Capt. Picard that they did for Capt. Kirk. I find the narrow font for attributes and disciplines harder to read. =_=

Sean's Picks of the Week (0821-0825) - Owen K.C. Stephens Week!

I bought the Starfarer's Companion a couple of days ago and yes, it is a quality product. While it's not as art-heavy as some RPG books, there is a LOT of content. If you are looking for more races, classes, feats and spells for Starfinder, you should check this book out.

DragonWing Games Takes Flight with Three Announcements!

Wow, I'm happy to see Fantasy Craft mentioned in the news - it has been a long time. I look forward to seeing what DragonWing Games will add. If they can get Ben McSweeny to provide some artwork, it will be a must-buy for me. :)

    Looking Back At BESM 3E

I agree that BESM third edition is well worth checking out. Mark C. MacKinnon and David Pulver created the Tri-Stat system used in this book which is well suited to portray the varied abilities and powers found in anime. The artwork by Niko Geyer is excellent and I don't think the other...
