Play Star Trek By Yourself In This New Solo Version of Star Trek Adventures

I am super curious about this. I am a little wary of how much fun the randomly generated missions are going to be, compared to doing a written adventure that's sort of a choose-your-own-adventure with the game system. I see you get a PDF immediately if you preorder. Hopefully someone does so and...

Icon rolls - improv tool or player freebie?

I haven't run into that problem with my players, though they typically aren't power gamers and we're still low enough level they're already fairly close to their magic item count. Assuming I hit that I would guess a few options: 1) Let the players choose ahead of the roll what they're rolling...

    Bounded Accuracy L&L

I wonder if the additional options you have at level is really what leveling up means for them. Sorry for the MMO reference, but like in swtor if you do pvp it levels you up to 49. Ignoring some higher level pvp gear, the big difference you end up with is more options in your toolkit for...

    Bounded Accuracy L&L

I like the idea of controlling character progression numbers from a DM point of view. I found it challenging in 4E to have an idea of difficulty especially when we were leveling at a faster pace. Inherent bonuses helped a bunch, this seems to say apply inherent bonuses by simply removing the...

    D&D 5E D&D Next Blog: Beyond Class & Race

My group really dug 4E themes and never really got excited about picking some feats the way they did choosing a theme. Except maybe some racial feats like the dragonborn breath ones, the affect they had on their character wasn't as neat as what themes got you. The article might not communicate...

Would you get behind Race levels?

I would love love love it as an option. I can see a guy who is a dragonborn with some basic racial aspects that heavily focuses in on his wizard class to primarily be a wizard. Another player could be the same but spend more choices on dragonborn features (breath types? wings? resistances...

D&D 5E Should Rangers Have Spells in 5e?

I don't want a unified spell system like 3E such that a ranger having access means he's picking from powers that the other classes are. Even if they aren't "powers" in the 4E sense, I hope that the spell-like choices available to rangers are tailored choices for the ranger class at a given level.

Seminar Transcript - Reimagining Skills and Ability Scores

Only way it might work is if the DM didn't roll. Monster attacks were static values, you rolled your "save" or whatever and if you beat the value, his attack failed. (You dodged it, it didn't break your skin, you understood it was an illusion and it failed to affect you, etc)

Seminar Transcript - Reimagining Skills and Ability Scores

I've always felt that, too. What about one of the following: -Level Progression - Just as your class gets features or abilities, so does your race as you level. Closer to Gamma World, I suppose, but perhaps with not equal affects... but you just know at level 9 your next racial feature is...

Seminar Transcript - Reimagining Skills and Ability Scores

I really hate feats in 4E. Beyond the obvious feat tax choices, the remaining are truly irritating for how little they do affect things. I do like the racial feats that modify powers and do neat things and dislike the ones that are just another way to get +1 on a roll with a specific weapon or...

Inherent Bonuses: +level to-hit and defenses?

I, too, am very interested in running a more streamlined stat game when I start a Dark Sun campaign here after I finish my current one. Maybe I'm coming across as a bit lazy, but as someone who no longer subscribes to DDI, I (and my players) would like a much easier math system and just focus...

    New Marvel RPG!

I'm looking forward to seeing how they adapt this system to the Marvel world. I think they've been clear that the + of Cortex+ is not just adjusting attributes for the same game just a new image on the cover. It likely wont be quite as heavy in the relationships side as Smallville, but...

    Elemental Hero' Handbook

As I said elsewhere, color me disinterested if it's simply the same class powers except with keywords. I think you can do that easily enough now with magical items or careful power choice for magic classes. I'd love to see a mechanic unique to elemental classes similar to power points for...

D&D 5E Taking Inherent Bonuses to the Next Level

Keep us posted what you come up with, especially any playtesting. I've been wary about affects on Strikers, I sort of feel we may have to adjust the numbers for each striker class. I might just come to that though when people pick their classes rather than spending the time looking at all.

D&D 5E Taking Inherent Bonuses to the Next Level

Nice - excellent input. Glad to see others have done some playtesting of similar things. I think this can get my game going a little more quickly, with some more focus on other choices. Really, these new theme articles in Dragon have been an inspiration for working toward a greater power focus.
