Firing a Ranged Weapon into melee?

It has sorta been moved to a bonus instead of a penalty.. Both warlocks and rangers get "prime shot" which is a +1 bonus, if you're the closest person to the enemy (representing that no melee is going on between the target and you).

Marked targets knowing about Combat Challenge

I'd say that the monster doesnt know. It knows that it's affected by the mark, but unless it has fought fighters before, it shouldnt know that fighters are trained to wack people that are marked.. Just like a monster wouldnt know that an orb wizard can reduce its chance to save on 'sleep'...

    Tempest Fighter makes me happy.

Some of the guys over at the character optimization forums (down atm) ran the numbers and it looks like TWF vastly outdamages 2H weapon. It's pretty bad at the heroic tier and gets worse and worse through paragon into epic. I really hope there is some love for 2H fighters in the book as well...

3rd Party Classes - Wish List

I'm hankering for a summoner/demonologist as well.. Hopefully something akin to the malconvoker from complete scoundrel.. Also, another class I'd like to see, the binder class. Really like the feel and mechanics of that one, thirdly I thought the fluff/feel of the truenamer class was awesome...

D&D 4E Alignment, 4e, you, and your paladins.

Free Tibet. Anyway.. The good/evil, law/chaos model for alignments in D&D has almost always annoyed me. I guess we used it to some degree when it first was introduced, but as far as being a type of attitude barometer or something, it's waaay too simplistic and generic. To aid me and my...

    D&D 4E 4e Multiclassing

Mmmm, sounds good, but we'll see.. I was kinda hoping they'd use the model from Bo9S. Imo the multiclassing rules in there were a thing of beauty, elegant, efficient and just right powerwise (cool, awesome and varied abilities at your disposal, but without making single classed character lame og...

Displacement - a bit wussy eh? Mirror image too...

Well, I'm not talking about rerolls in general, I'm talking about forcing your opponent to make a reroll.. It's a vastly different thing in practice, especially if you can do it after you know the result. Both the luck domain granted power and the swashbuckler power, only affect the stuff they...

Displacement - a bit wussy eh? Mirror image too...

I think that while displacement might look at bit shabby at first glance, it'll probably be really good in practice. Immediate action that forces a reroll.. Forcing a reroll was an exceptionally rare ability in 3e for a reason (off the top of my head I can only think of the fatespinner and some...

Trip is an Encounter Power now

I think the problem stems from you fixating on the "Every five minutes" thing. Try to think of it as something that is possible to do every once in a while (because the opportunity presents it self, in whatever form.. Be it a clumsy move on the opponents part OR an exceptional move on the...

Trip is an Encounter Power now

The reason we're talking about "real world" martial arts, while talking about 4e, is because someone said that they didnt like trip as an encouter power (claiming it unrealistic that everyone cant trip all the time). As, Moochava, said.. You can describe your character attempting to trip all...

Trip is an Encounter Power now

As someone who practices martial arts as well (mainly Wing Tsun and Latosa Escrima) I completely agree with this. Also, (this is stolen from another poster, sorry cant remember who) I really like the idea of thinking about encounter powers (and dailys for that matter) as a way of putting some...

D&D eXPerience: Core Mechanics (now compiled in 1st post!)

We need a few more tidbits, before we can run 4E 'lite' sessions I think :) I read somewhere else, that the "slowed" condition from the wizards 'sleep spell' reduces the targets move to 2 squares. Also, seeing as one of the monster stats (the human guard) has a knockdown effect (target goes...

    Monsters from Xanth's Pictures

Damn, nice looking crunch! About the spiked chain.. Not that worried, as I see the halberd ALSO has "reach 2".. Which I'm guessing means that the silly spiked chain is no longer the UBER weapon it used to (I doubt they kept the "cant attack adjacent foes" of reach weapons, except the chain)...

Questions for Scott Rouse & Andy Collins!

All about multiclassing! :) How do you gain abilities from other classes? What about the restrictions on the various powers? (In particular I'm thinking of the 'light blade' requirement on most of the rogue powers, when multiclassed with a fighter who normally uses a longsword, or an axe or...
