Free Neverwinter Online: A Jewel of the North or Free-to-Play Drek?

it should also be noted that this game is still on beta. just to put things in perspective. And this is meant as neutral statement without saying whether the game is good or bad

And I do not think that chastity belts for doors are a something of this reality. So, yes. You are the only one :)

Netflix or Love Film (in the UK)

A friend has Love Film in Germany and he is very happy with it but given that such services vary in quality from country to country this might not help you that much. In Switzerland we have neither of them :/ I think our copyright laws are a tad too loose for them to be interested in us.

Yep, back in my collector days a few years ago I was buying quite a bit of stuff from US Ebay auctions and the costs were quite reasonable. But somehow USPS must have changed something in the last 3 or 4 years when it comes to overseas packages. What did cost perhaps 30-60$ back then now costs...

    Too many Kickstarters?!?!?!

Didn't we have some kind of announcment forum in the past where the authors/companies could post their latest product announcments? I think this would be the akin to the current "Press Releases" forum, right? Perhaps we could make a rule that Kickstarter posts should be posted into such a forum...

Kickstarter Anyone supporting the Dwarven Forge Kickstarter

Our group is putting the money together for the 260$ pledge. The freight costs to Europe are a real killer but hey, if you divide the costs by 6 it is bearable. I just hope it reaches the 600k level so we get the rounded corners.

Would you ever watch other people play RPGs, as entertainment?

I've watched/listened to the PA podcasts and the Critical Hit podcasts so yes, I'd watch that if the group has the talent to fill out the show. I think for a podcast/vidcast it is especially important that the players/DM are entertaining enough in order to transport the topic to the audience.

The Great Breach Has Been Repelled!

Nowadays usually there are two main reasons for this: 1. The did it because they can (makes no sense to those not involved but it happens all the time) 2. They did it because someone bought/paid them to do it 2a. Because someone wants a site going out of business, at least for some time...

Gamehackery: Technology and Winging It: Intro (part 1 of 4)

The thing I love most about this solution is that you save a ton of time by not having to paint/draw the dungeon on the go while the players explore the map. Given that our time is limited on how much we play this is really a big bonus for us. As a GM I invest about 2-3 hours in Campaign...

Shut Up and Roll #2: That's No Moon

Someone has learned the essential bits from Bastard Operator from Hell :) Nice writing.

What I learned from Boardgames: The hidden power of the character sheet

Character sheets: That piece of paper that players will wring and crumple in their hands more and more the worse the situation gets, staring at it from top to bottom as if it would save their precious player character's life. Wood pieces would not be an ideal element in that kind of situation.

Finding the right flavor of D&D for my group

If I were you I really would think about switching to a rules light system because you only meet once a month or less. So I think it is important that you choose a system that is fast paced and where fights do not take too long. Rules light also helps getting into the game again quickly after a...

    D&D 5E Maybe D&D Should Branch?

Not only from a financial point the basic/advanced way would be the most sensible solution. You do not have to support multiple settings (=dev teams) at the same time which saves money and prevents splitting the player base into multiple parts. It also helps to prevent rules clutter (remember...

    D&D 5E Maybe D&D Should Branch?

You could compare it to the Star Wars novels, somehow. There are and have been dozens of different writers creating SW novels over the past decades but even if they introduced their own parts and pieces to the setting with their books the overall picture still adheres to the core that was...
