D&D 5E [GUIDE] The Sorlock – Guide to the tormented divine soul with Xanathar's Divine Soul(17)+Hexblade(3) [Updated 12/20/21]

Oh, no doubt. It's absolutely ludicrous and a big pain in the ass. I just want to wave my staff or wand or whatever for all of my spells, please and thank you. It's something that I tend to handwave when I DM, and I imagine lots of people do the same. For general advice, though, RAW is the safer...

That's exactly my point. If you're using the spellcasting focus as the spell's material component, you can use it to perform the somatic component. If the spell doesn't have a material component, though, none of this applies. No material component, no spell focus.

No, you had it right the first time, and your link confirms your original reading: An arcane focus can only be used for the somatic component of a spell that also has a material component.

D&D 5E [GUIDE] Pacts, Patrons, and Power, a Warlock guide

Should still be OK, per PHB pg. 173: So if you have both, you end up with neither and can still sneak attack if you have a buddy nearby. Makes the Darkness trick a bit less selfish.

Regarding the question of why you would twin Eldritch Blast instead of Fireball, I think you're getting Twinned Spell mixed up with Quickened Spell. Neither Eldritch Blast nor Fireball is eligible for Twinned Spell, since it requires a spell that only allows for a single target. With Quickened...

    Would a Paladin/Druid work?

You can find it in Chapter 6, tucked into the Multiclassing > Prerequisites section. Actually had the reference handy since I looked it up recently after someone in the True Assassin thread mentioned that requirement.

Monk a striker: Why? (Forked Thread: 3rd Party Poopers)

Regarding Ninja: I can see them being Ki Strikers, with a heavy stealth theme. Build-wise, maybe one focused on range (shurikens and the like, ninja magic stuff) or melee (light blade, fist, claw weapons). Though on the other hand it could be cool with a Shadow power source, too. Likewise Wu...

Monk a striker: Why? (Forked Thread: 3rd Party Poopers)

In the context of other likely Ki-based classes, Monk seems the most Strikerish. Given the pool of established classes that, at least somewhat fit the Ki style, I see the Class/Role spread unfolding thusly: Samurai - Defender Wu Jen - Controller Shugenja - Leader Monk - Striker We also have...

    Re-examining the 5' step

Gotcha. My bad on the lack of clarity. I meant it in both ways, in that the wizard moves to avoid the casting AoO, but makes it a 5' to avoid the movement AoO. I figured most of that was assumed, as it's a fairly standard maneuver. In any event, readying a move against a caster shimmy would be...

    Re-examining the 5' step

Is that different from what I said?

    Re-examining the 5' step

Sure, but the reason behind the wizard taking a 5' is to avoid the AoO. Readying a move should be enough for the orc to maintain the threat and get the attack off. The sequence would go W: 5' > O: 5' (readied to respond to a wizard's move) > W: Cast > O: Attack of Opportunity, all this of course...

    Dragon 365 - Artificer

Alternate Implement Regarding the three hands problem, I'd like to see them use the artifices as their implement. Give them a few categories to specialize in like how a wizard can choose wand, orb, or staff. Maybe trap, device, and construct. Within each category, you could make any number of...

    So, wizards fight like fighters?

A wizard player-designed to fight like a fighter should fight like a fighter The main point of similarity between the two hypothetical characters in question if the fact that both are built to perform the same function. A standard fighter is built to be able to attack well. The hypothetical...

I also have the books [merged] (info on upcomming Power sources and more)

I noticed some of that in an earlier post, too. It looks cool and frees domains up for me to use as my houseruled alternate alignment system. Win-win!

I also have the books [merged] (info on upcomming Power sources and more)

Cue the slow-motion "NoOOOOoooOOOOOO!!!" sequence. Has anyone seen any info on domains at all, whether used in the traditional cleric sense, or just as a descriptor to gods?
