D&D 5E DMG - breaking bounded accuracy already?

this is a valid point. mud and grime games can be fun. the problem is the ap's for 5e are high fantasy. so we have the rub of peasant farmers with swords in a high fantasy setting. if the ap's were mud and grime then you would have a functioning game. but, most people wouldn't want to play it...

D&D 5E DMG - breaking bounded accuracy already?

yeah the math would need work :D. keep prof bonuses flat at first level (if you don't then increasing prof bonuses won't matter much). but from there something relatively simple like taking the higher level tier bonus shouldn't affect the basic math and would have the effect of separating the...

D&D 5E DMG - breaking bounded accuracy already?

let's drop the rl analogies. they are rather pointless. my entire point is that adventurers are highly skilled in ways that commoners could never be. they are the elite(with skillsets and abilities that make them untouchable compared to a villager) but with bounded accuracy they are nothing more...

D&D 5E DMG - breaking bounded accuracy already?

yeah but football isn't a game of 10 on 1. it's a game of 11 on 11. would you ever be able to complete an nfl pass in a game situation? i wouldn't be able to. yet the farmer can hit the ogre... and again this speaks to the mob rule mentality. the mob is simply more effective in most situations...

D&D 5E DMG - breaking bounded accuracy already?

let's use kobolds for the barbarians example (or some other low level cr creature that bounded accuracy tells us should be able to threaten a 10th level barbarian...unless of course low level creatures couldn't threaten him-where for art thou bounded accuracy? :D ). the farmers simply an example...

D&D 5E DMG - breaking bounded accuracy already?

ok we have to disagree on this point..if im 8th level and still fighting kobolds then something has gone terribly wrong. what's wrong with the fight? no xp, no treasure, no thrill and no satisfaction. low level mobs are just that low level mobs. there has to come a point, sooner rather than...

D&D 5E rise of tiamat ap with rodney thompson ..

this isn't a roadblock this is a deadend street. the villagers are openly hostile to the point that it could readily lead to the party slaughtering them...which would be a viable option if only the party could beat them. absent that a large amount of handwaving/backpeddling is necessary to...

D&D 5E DMG - breaking bounded accuracy already?

bounded accuracy presents numerous problems. characters are more likely to run from fights (any fights) rather than tangle with low level mobs-what's the benefit of the fight? long drawn out hack and slash for no xp and no satisfaction (yes! we just beat another mob of goblins :-S ). the idea...

D&D 5E DMG - breaking bounded accuracy already?

i think bounded accuracy should be broken. the idea that kobolds are a threat to a 20th level char appeals to no one and the general 'fix' to this is simply not having minions fight high level chars. but this isn't really acceptable either..so, what's happened is that since low level creatures...

D&D 5E rise of tiamat ap with rodney thompson ..

so i just saw this-a play thru of part one of rise of tiamat ...dm'ed by rodney thompson https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eq3RpqYe7kM i was pretty interested in this to see how the designers run their own games and in particular this ap. as a showcase of the game the video demonstrates...

D&D 5E 5th edition Forgotten Realms: Why can't you just ignore the lore?

but this is searching thru editions past for sourcebooks that may or may not have any relevance (not to mention the fact that most sourcebooks are a chore to read). the default 5e setting 'lore' is basically nothing but some familiar city names and yeah you could go back and read a bunch of ed...

D&D 5E 5th edition Forgotten Realms: Why can't you just ignore the lore?

it isn't a question of why can't you ignore the lore...but one of how can you not ignore it? in the absence of any setting book or detailed descriptions of the world one has to ignore the lore-because it doesn't exist. sure there are place names and allusions to various heroes/gods but this is a...

D&D 5E Purposefully Hindering your Character at Creation

i like for flaws to develop more organically..that is thru group play. we had a fighter who lost a finger in a battle and it was a long running joke during the campaign...my halfling cleric hit a captured gobin with a biscuit :D and always carried one(a biscuit not a goblin) from that day...

D&D 5E Minimum ability scores for a PC

16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 11. or could be 15,14,13..etc. i hate dump stats from a flavor perspective-just ruins everything. you end up with the party leader/face with a 6 charisma or the fighter as forrest gump. but yeah you could play pretty much any class in 5e with a 16 dex/12/12 and the rest 8's...

    D&D 5E What's wrong with a human-centric fantasy world?

it actually might be more interesting to start with an all demihuman party of another race and have them encounter humans(maybe adding humans to the party). the limitations of an all human party is the boredom factor (there are 9 playable races for a reason :D). but all that being said i really...
