Your player is right. If eldritch blast hits or the the targeted creature fails its save, they take EB damage and then have to save or be grappled.
It’s decent but it’s not gamebreaking to allow a creature to make a ranged grapple against one creature. A grappled creature can still use their...
I can’t quickly find language confirming it, but cantrips scale with character level like in O5e.
Notably, eldritch blast was changed to a class feature and scales with warlock levels.
I also can’t think of any class features off the top of my head that scale with character level.
RAW twist the blade doesn’t increase your critical hit range, so it won’t stack with dangerous strikes to expand the range to 17-20.
I would let it stack in my game.
I don’t think versatile and dual-wielding conflict as written since double weapons are a special case of two-handed dual-wielded weapons, but it’s a reasonable way to rule it.
An urgosh is a Battleaxe and Spear double weapon. It has the dual wielding and parrying properties, and deals a base of d8 with the battleaxe side and d6 with the spear side.
Ask your DM if the versatile property applies. RAW I lean towards no, but it’s not perfectly clear.
Synergy feats are very cool idea but seriously gimp your character for quite a few levels if you do the intended 4/4 split. You are effectively playing in tier 1 until level 9!
I recommend asking your DM ahead of time to retrain your level 4 ASI when you qualify for the synergy feat...
No, I don’t think the feature allows it. The key language is: “This limits the spell’s range to that of your unarmed strike and the number of targets to one.”
The feature doesn’t expand the range of spells with a range of Self.
A level 17 Walking Rock adept with a +3 spider-silk padded leather, a +3 heavy shield, brutal defense, and a potion of storm giant strength is sitting 16 + 9 + 5 + 6 = 36 AC. I’m sure there are some other magic items, like rings of protection, that require attunement and which could push this...
Totally agree—eldritch scythe is the way to go, especially after Warlock 11. I was just responding to the question about whether warlocks can make two off-hand attacks, and the answer is yes.
With respect to the original post and Dread Knight, it’s just not really meant to be a ranged build...
