I've exclusively played with feats, but I'd be interested in a game that doesn't use them. It's not that I dislike feats, but I'm mostly convinced that certain classes/sub-classes are significantly more attractive without feats stepping all over their design space and I'd like to put that to the...
My "big deal" takeaway from this: DMG Chapter 8, "Combining Game Effects."
If multiple game features (not just spells anymore) are in effect and share a name, the effects don't stack. A cluster of paladins is no longer guaranteed to save against everything. This is a wonderful thing.
I'd come at it from another angle - what are the downsides to faction affiliation? I can't think of any, really, which is unfortunate. A major positive part of being factionless ought to be staying clear of faction politics and rivalries (if there were any).
Special adventures (like for a...
For 5E, for downtime activity in a location with no threat, classes and skills really don't matter. You just want to be able to reliably disassemble stuff without breaking it. Proficiency in carpenter's tools and mason's tools would cover most everything you might need. That would be a...
I played and ran a lot of LFR. The "everything goes!" approach seemed nice at the outset. By the end, keeping up with errata list and various interaction clarifications was exhausting; my poor swordmage (I had him mapped through high paragon) changed directions enough times to make my head spin...
Of note:
I was so not looking forward to having a discussion with the first joker to show up with a first level character, proficient with "Water Vehicles," that decided he owned a fleet of galleys.
This line initially did not include "half-elves" as an option. It has been updated.
I kind...

Thank you for the Inheritor update!
Edit: Note - per Travis Woodall (Facebook), the Bladesinger clarification should allow both elves and half-elves. It'll be updated soon.
The Inheritor background's starting equipment still concerns me. The AL announcement addresses the Inheritance feature, but the starting equipment still contains that pesky "any items with which you are proficient."
Which the story origin mechanic will continue to address for so long as it continues. "Current season material" plus "common base material" will limit the amount of broken allowed in to the campaign at any point.
I simply believe the "common base material" ought to include the setting book for...
I said the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide is both Realms-wide and story origin agnostic. In a way that the EEPG explicitly isn't.
I believe we have a disconnect in how we're picturing the SCAG. I see it as the campaign guide we should have had at release (State of the Realms! Deities of the...
I prefer to consider it a sign of flexibility.
This is a book specific to the Realms (with a scope well beyond the Sword Coast) with a section of storyline-agnostic options tailored to Realms-based player characters. It is the 5E Guide to the Forgotten Realms. If it makes sense to include...
