D&D (2024) No Dwarf, Halfling, and Orc suborgins, lineages, and legacies

Is the question whether these things are cool or not or whether these are elements of culture vs. biology?

D&D (2024) No Dwarf, Halfling, and Orc suborgins, lineages, and legacies

Yeah, but humans who live by the sea generally don't have gills and webbed fingers. I dunno, I like subspecies for elves, although they could use some tightening up. If Eladrin/High Elf were consolidated together, I think that would be good. Also, I wouldn't be sad if Shadar-Kai just replaced...

D&D 5E Guns and D&D - are we doing it wrong? An alternative

This may be a bit basic or cringe or whatever, but I actually really like how Critical Role implemented firearms in terms of thematics (rather than mechanics). In Exandria, the gun is revolutionary in the same way that it was in the Early Modern period because it provides a somewhat more...

D&D (2024) WotC Reveals The Confirmed Release Dates of 2024's D&D Slate

So the other places I'm seeing this news have the DMG release date as November 12th. I'm guessing that there was an accidental copying of the PHB date?

D&D (2024) Should Green Flame Blade and Booming Blade be in the new PHB?

Feels like there's a bit of an undistributed middle there. As I think I discussed on a Four Elements monk thread, there's the Elementalism cantrip (which is pretty weaksauce even for cantrips and doesn't really evoke the feeling of being an elementalist), versus say a cantrip or 1st level spell...

D&D (2024) Should Green Flame Blade and Booming Blade be in the new PHB?

But as to the subject, given how ubiquitous those two spells are for a wide range of character archetypes, it would seem a bit odd not to include them when a lot of experienced players are going to take them off the bat anyway. Just seems like it would be creating an annoying paywall for new...

D&D (2024) Should Green Flame Blade and Booming Blade be in the new PHB?

I've always thought of it like static electricity; you don't move, and you don't get damaged. But if you scuff your feet against the "carpet," you get a nasty zetz.

    D&D (2024) Playtest 8 Monk Discussion

In other discussions about this, people have noted that this falls off a bit somewhat later as multi-attack becomes more common. Yeah, Deflect Attack will negate one attack, but the Monk can get in trouble if they start getting multiple attacks coming their way.

D&D (2024) Rogue's Been in an Awkward Place, And This Survey Might Be Our Last Chance to Let WotC Know.

Right, I think the choice requires a roleplaying justification that explains how you are going about it.

D&D (2024) Rogue's Been in an Awkward Place, And This Survey Might Be Our Last Chance to Let WotC Know.

Needed a sec to check what I had been originally arguing, because it's been a while. So here I suggested that you could use Acrobatics to increase jumping distance instead of Athletics, keeping in mind that this would be while using Step of the Wind. And earlier I suggested allowing Step of the...

    D&D (2024) Next playtest speculation

Given that they deleted every mention of May from WotC socials, I think the May date can safely be dismissed - whether it was a mistake or a leak or the date got pushed, (I lean towards the first), it's not happening now. I think we'll see Spells. I'm less sure that we'll see anything...

I'm saying if the distances between enemy creatures in both cases are what you describe, then I don't see why you'd need to Tumble in 3.5 rather than walk around, since you're out of OA range.

D&D (2024) The Great Nerf to High Level Martials: The New Grapple Rules

I get that, I'm trying to express my design preference here. But your example of the bar mace confuses me - why not just use a warhammer and call it a bar mace, since it's just a flavour thing and not a mechanical thing in both instances, since there isn't an item called a "bar mace" in the...

D&D (2024) Rogue's Been in an Awkward Place, And This Survey Might Be Our Last Chance to Let WotC Know.

Ok, but my point is that the same situation also applied in 3.X! I do not understand what you're getting at here. I am making a distinction between Dex (Acrobatics) being used to jump versus being used to keep your balance on rough terrain after you jump.

D&D (2024) Rogue's Been in an Awkward Place, And This Survey Might Be Our Last Chance to Let WotC Know.

Hang on, though. That doesn't describe the walking-around scenario you were talking about. I have read the mechanic; you're not being clear about the scenario. If you don't need to jump, i.e because there's a floor you can cross, then jumping is irrelevant. If you do need to jump, then the low...
