[Say, about 2 days travel to the landslide]

IC: Persephone puts her arm around Rinaldo. "You are a good man, my spice trader. I would welcome further adventures with you. As I said earlier, Monemvassia is too dangerous for me. There are some there who know me, and I am not yet ready to face them. But the danger to the citizens seems real enough. They could use a good fellow like you along, Rinaldo. I think you should consider accompanying these brave warriors. It sounds like they need more help than just goblin fighters."

(Just let a bit of discussion pass, and if you feel that enough time has passed, return him to the inn. That's basically what I've done with Ashnar when I had him leave the inn to miss Nimisgod's adventure.)

"Thank you to both of you for your trust... but I think I will take one more opinion before making my choice. Master Nurlan, you know better than me what is your need. Do you think I would be of some use in your expedition?"

ooc: In the interest of accomodating Charlarn, this could use a lot of in character time.

"As we have time, perhaps we could sketch out a map of the surroundings, and notate it with the areas in which you encountered resistance. It might allow us to better plan an assault, and it's always good to be familiar with the terrain."

"That is hard to say", replies Nurlan. "The nature of our quest chaged several times in the short time we were there. When we left we thought we were headed for combat; then we got diverted by legal problems, then a mystery to solve, and now it seems stealth may be the most important asset. It may well change again. Perhaps we shall get into a big fight with too many hobgoblins and need more fighting skills. Perhaps our investigations shall take us back into the city and we shall need to negotiate with organizations such as the Thieves' Guild.

"I therefore do not know who is the man for the job. I do not even know if I am. To tell the truth, I am more used to singing about heroic deeds than performing them. I carry a longspear mainly because I have found it a useful prop in performances. But after our first battle with the goblins and the hobgoblins, when I held out my spear and a hobgoblin obliged us by impaling himself on it, I realized that I can fight too. Perhaps you haven unknown talents that you will discover only in the midst of adventure. I would say that if you are prepared to face the unknown, I would be happy to have you with us."

"Tenebrynn, do you have the map the halfling gave you? We could start by looking at it."

OOC: Steve Jung: feel free to consider the dialogue in this thread just excerpts from a longer conversation, so that as much or as little in-game time has passed as you see fit. Time is a very loose concept in LEW to begin with.

Somac becomes a little confused and dismayed at the talk of diplomacy and legal problems.

"These kinds of problems should be solved with a sword," he thinks to himself. He subconsciously pats his sword for reassurance.

His eyes light up when he hears talk about killing goblins and hobgoblins. And he begins to positively glow when a map is mentioned. There was nothing he liked more as a boy than a good map!

charlarn of Phyrah: Male human cleric 1

The door to the Red Dragon Inn opens in the evening. A robed figure enters the common room. It is Charlarn and he appears calmer than when he left. His hair is cut short as well. He nods to Joe at the bar. "Good evening fellow travelers. I am Charlarn of Phyrah."

He makes a beeline for the table where Tenebrynn and Nurlan are. "Hello. Sorry about my sudden leaving. I had some things at the temple to take care of. Who are your friends?"

goblin map

Here's the map again, for what its worth. It shows almost no detail. The 'X' is the purported HQ, near a river, at the edge of the mountains.

Nurlan introduces Ashnar, Somac, Tor, Rinaldo, and Persephone. "Persephone has been to Monemvassia, and was telling us a little about it. Including one rather interesting tidbit that explains why the Sword of Justice Kim referred to does not function as it is supposed to. She won't return there, but it sounds like the rest of these people are interested."

He turns to the map. "The city is here, on the promontory on the right edge. The goblin hideout is supposed to be up here at the top. We followed this road that runs along the river until we got to an avalanche; that seemed to mark the beginning of enemy territory. When we tried to cross past the rockslide we seemed to have triggered some alarm -- a bell started ringing, and only stopped when the ghouls appeared. We beat a quick retreat. I'm not sure how far from the avalanche the lair is, but up until that point the going seems relatively safe. The goblins we encountered at first were closer to the city gates, but that was their foray into civilzed territory."
