Codex Anathema changed to... Lords of Madness?

In the MMIII I didn't want all those "creature name in Eberron, creature name in Forgotten Realms" wastes of space.

They weren't wastes of space; each monster starts on a new page, so if they left them out you'd just have blank space instead.

Geoff.

I also thought that Codex Anathema didn't sound about aberration, but rather about evil outsiders.

OTOH Lords of Madness is pretty generic, compared to Draconomicon and Libris Mortis which had a more stylish and mysterious sound which suited the idea of a "prestige book". I think they could have put a little bit more effort in thinking the name...

I wonder if the name change might have been motivated by a desire to avoid confusing the WotC book with GW's Warhammer 40k Codex series...

Just a guess.

The "Complete" Series has been translated in French as the "Codex" series (ie, Codex Martial for Complete Warrior, Codex Divin for Complete Divine, etc.). But I do not suppose this was the reason for the change.

Avoiding duplicate acronyms, I could buy it, if we didn't have Players' Handbook, Psionics Handbook, and Planar Handbook... Even if Psionics Handbook is now replaced by Expanded Psionics Handbook, EPH or XPH instead of PH.

PS: For insanity in Greek, you can try Phobos (terror), Deimos (panic), Pathos (suffering), or Tuphos (dementation).

Somebody who actually studied Greek could probably find better (or more accurate :o) matches.

Because aberrations are not all from the Far Realm. It would be a bit too Eberronish to assume they all come from the same plane, otyughs, carrion crawlers, beholders, and yuan-ti all alike...

"Phobos & Deimos" would be more unintelligible than Codex Anathema :p but it's actually the names of planet Mars's satellites, so it may have something to do with alien monsters...

& some might think it is the D20 Doom Rules.

The cover did kind of look like trouble. What was worse the victim was male, and THAT would definitly cost sales in the RPG market. :p

And all this time, I thought the beholder's white central eye was actually its grinning mouth... Because the central eye was necessarily closed for it to use its eye-rays in front of it...
