Adventure:-- LPNN (Manzanita Judging)

OOC: I figured the bolts went to the people with crossbows. Ogrin trusts his weapons and his skills to get him out of this predicament.

Ogrin will fight defensively, hoping to get a lucky critical.

(OOC: Aww, didn't know you had no bow. Unfortunately, really, as the Dex and size would help it hit. Ah well, yeah, then I guess Raz and Juliana have them all, with maybe one for Almayce. Actually, he probably could have lent someone else his Masterwork Darkwood Crossbow during that hour since we knew he'd be healing every round :D)

(OOC: Zaeryl will continue dying with style. Oh, and in case it comes up, I believe prone characters don't threaten squares, so that was another reason why you were right that Huln didn't get AoO smacked :))

[SBlock] You can attack when prone (although at -4) thus you threaten an area, thus you are capable of making AOO's. Thank goodness. Else trip-specialists would be even more powerful in 3.5 -- not something that needs to happen.[/SBlock]

Boothill Battle, round 3, partial

Correction to Round 2: Vargo, as he indicated in his last note, follows Huln to LongTooth and is ready to “aid another” when Huln attacks next round. Sorry, missed that movement.

Further issue from Round 2: Ogrin wanted to draw his short sword, this requires a successful grapple check (and is a MEA). Ogrin rolls a “3” and slinker a “9”. He fails to draw his short sword and must try again next round. (I didn’t know drawing it requires a grapple check).

ROUND3:

LongTooth 20
Hallidor 20
BatS 19
Slinker 17
Ogrin 16
Stinker 14
Raz 13
Zaeryl 13
Juliana 11
Almayce 6
Vargo & Wolf 1

I20: LongTooth, somewhat perplexed by the turn of events, is nevertheless game.

“Oh I’ll bow; I’ll even kiss your foot,” growls LongTooth, removing a hand from his weapon and reaching out for Juliana’s ankle, “and after I kiss it, I’ll chew off a few toes.”

In other words, he attempts to grapple Juliana. Juliana naturally gets an AOO; she rolls a “7” (-4 for fighting defensively, +4 vs prone, etc.) and misses. LongTooh, watching her “flail” about, can’t help but smile a bit. He grabs at her ankle; rolls a touch attack of “1” and utterly, and completely, fails. Big time.

“ARRRGGH!!!” LongTooth rages, jumping to his feet, tired of groveling at foot-level.

Huln sees an opening and attacks with an AOO; because LongTooth is “getting up” he’s not prone thus no +4. “8”. Misses anyway.

Even Vargo gets a hack in, and attacks with a shortspear. Rolls a “18” and misses. I mean, the guy has –1 to hit. That stuff happens.

So, finally, LongTooth stands up!

I20: Hallidor bleeds. Does not stabilize.

I19: The bat swarm moves towards the source of greatest heat (and blood), that being Slinker, Stinker, Ogrin, and Raz. The bats can’t quite stretch enough to get to everyone. Too bad. Raz, however, takes damage, as does Stinker. Raz takes 4 and is now bleeding, Stinker takes nothing. *attacking through a swarm* When attacking an opponent through a swarm, the opponent gains +2 to AC. The swarm can be attacked without penalty.

Everyone who was bat-bit, bleeds 1 point, if you have not been cured a little.

I17: Slinker, happily grappling, attacks with his bite (at –4 because he’s grappling). He rolls a “14” and misses.

I16: Ogrin attempts to draw his short sword (MEA, requires grapple check) and fights defensively, and attacks if he has a sword. He fails to draw his sword. So instead of attacking he attempts to draw his short sword again. Fails again. God. Slinker is a sneaky one.

I14: Stinker, not much caring about the bats, attacks Raz with a poke and a bite. He rolls a 9/3 and misses with both, given the +2 bat AC cover.

I13: Raz does something. Attacks something. But What? (swarm, Stinker, or does he move, etc.) -- Pending --

Everyone declare updated actions for ROUND 3 (if you have not gone yet) and ROUND 4, since things have changed significantly since the last JPEG.

(Edit: OK, I'll put in something different this time: If someone is prone and a tripper doesn't have Combat Reflexes, you may want to ask if they want to waste an AoO on something like a grapple because I'll bet Juliana would have rather not made the AoO for the grapple, so she could be ready to make a tripping AoO while Longtooth was rising to knock him down again.)

[SBlock] Well I had to make the call. All LongTooth had to do was make a touch AC attack at -4. Odds were good that would happen. And once he's grappling, the -4 "to hit" penalty vanishes; it's not applied to grapple checks. So, Juliana would be risking at least a 50% chance of ending up in a grapple if her AOO wasn't used. Plus, she didn't know in advance what LongTooth would do if the grapple failed. Personally, I'd take the "stop the grapple" AOO. Biting lycanthropic WereRats are no fun in an embrance.[/SBlock]

SBLOCK:
[SBLOCK]
Though a grappler loses Dex to AC versus others, so while he grappled Juliana, he would be even easier to hit for the other folks, and he wouldn't be able to use his giant deadly guisarme ;).

Yeah, but LongTooth has a thing for finger food, and also enjoys a slurping or two of Toe Jam.

OOC: FYI, I'm fine with attacking on the grapple, particulary because Huln and vargo are around. Btw, I will try to take a 5 foot step if needed to get a flank on Longtooth. Also, if I am able to trip Longtooth, I would like to draw the arrow in my off hand (I should be able to grab it if I forgo my shield defense). I believe I can attack with the arrow as a make shift melee weapon (If I can't give me a chance to change my action then please).
