Adventure:-- LPNN (Manzanita Judging)

Round 3: Peeking from behind the rock and seeing that the swarm is gone, Almayce sprints towards Hallidor (the square right from him), and heals him 7 points, hopefully bringing him back to his feet.

Round 4: As Juliana should be at about 0 hit points (or lower) at Almayce's turn, Almayce takes a step towards her to heal her with the wand.

Everyone needs to keep track of their own PC's hit points. Preferably, when in combat, start any "action" post with a quick summary of your PC. Hit points, current AC, then action.

I've got enough to keep track of. I've increasingly come to realize that D&D just has way, way too many rules.

OOC: FYI, I'm fine with attacking on the grapple, particulary because Huln and vargo are around. Btw, I will try to take a 5 foot step if needed to get a flank on Longtooth. Also, if I am able to trip Longtooth, I would like to draw the arrow in my off hand (I should be able to grab it if I forgo my shield defense). I believe I can attack with the arrow as a make shift melee weapon (If I can't give me a chance to change my action then please).

You can do this. An arrow is a makeshift weapon, "An arrow used as a melee weapon is treated as a light improvised weapon (-4 penalty on attack rolls) and deals damage as a dagger of its size (critical multiplier ×2)". In the future, quote the relevant rules for your PC if you want to do something odd, i.e. figure out yourself if your PC can do it, if they can, give me the "to hit", damage, and etc. I can't research and calculate each PC's actions individually, it takes too long.

So, from what I gather, Juliana is not using her shield, rather, drawing an arrow in her off-hand and tripping with her flail. Then, if LongTooth is tripped, she will use the arrow to stab him when he's down off the improved trip feat. (again, in the future the PC's should specify all this detail). Rules-wise, I don't want to get into the interplay between two weapon use, off hand, penalties, etc. and just say you can do it.

____

Juliana lets her shield hang down unused and pulls a silver arrow from her belt. In her other hand, she holds her flail, and attacks LongTooth at I11.

Round 3 complete

ROUND 3, continued:

LongTooth 20
Hallidor 20
BatS 19
Slinker 17
Ogrin 16
Stinker 14
Raz 13
Zaeryl 13
Juliana 11
Almayce 6
Vargo & Wolf 1

I13: Raz attacks Stinker – AARRGGH! Or should that be, “GROOOWWWGGH!” Hard to tell. Anyway, rolls a “2” and a “10”. Yup. One day, one day, “Invisible Castle” will cut Raz some slack. As it is, Stinker just giggles.

I11: Juliana. Faced with a standing foe who is flanked, Juliana rolls an “8” and fails to latch one with the touch attack. Hmm.

I6: “Peeking from behind the rock and seeing that the swarm is gone, Almayce sprints towards Hallidor (the square right from him), and heals him 7 points, hopefully bringing him back to his feet.” – and he’s up! Rather, he’s down but quite conscious.

I1: Vargo attempts to ‘aid another’ regarding Huln’s bit attack on the flanked LongTooth. He rolls a “2” and can’t quite figure out which end of his spear is the pointy one, used for attack.

Huln, however, bites away – “7” and realizes that air doesn’t taste as good as WereRat.

Round 3 over.

All Players, New Rule Starting Now

Starting with round 4 and every combat round thereafter, for any and all combats, your PC's are only capable of taking actions that are clearly described and include all relevant modifiers/numbers.

If your PC wants to grapple a bear, you must include the touch attack "to hit" value, the "grapple check" value, the damage you can do using what weapon, etc.

If your PC wants to attack after charging, you must include the negative to your PC's AC, and the new "to hit" value. Plus the damage range.

If your PC wants to cast spell XYZ, you must include the range of the spell, the spell DC, what is does, effects on enemy given failed/made save, etc.

Else, they don't do the action you specify. They do something simpler, like delay.

I'm spending way too much time micro-managing the incredibly complicated D&D ruleset.

You know your PC's much better than I do. Take a few extra seconds and help our your GM.

Thanks.

OOC: I know how you feel, Two. =P After scouring the last 4 pages, I come up with Razh's current HP: 18/27. Actually, I do have one question. You said this:

Two said:
I19: The bat swarm moves towards the source of greatest heat (and blood), that being Slinker, Stinker, Ogrin, and Raz. The bats can’t quite stretch enough to get to everyone. Too bad. Raz, however, takes damage, as does Stinker. Raz takes 4 and is now bleeding...

Everyone who was bat-bit, bleeds 1 point, if you have not been cured a little.

The SRD says this about the wounding attack of bat swarms:

SRD said:
Any living creature damaged by a bat swarm continues to bleed, losing 1 hit point per round thereafter.

If that means that Razh was bitten on this turn (Round 3) and bleeds for one point of damage on this turn (Round 3), then he has 17 HP, otherwise, he has 18 (duh). My reading of the rules would be that, no, he has not lost 1 HP to bleeding yet. But I'd rather leave it up to the unbiased DM and cite the SRD than assume for myself. Yay? =D
EDIT: See next post, by Two.

Seeing Juliana wield one of the silvered arrows as a dagger inspires Razh to do the same. After dropping his two axes (Free), he reaches into his quiver of crossbow bolts (from which he has removed all but the silvered arrows) and grabs two bolts (MEA). Quicker than his dwarven stature would make him out to be, he takes a quick strike at his foe, Stinker.

OOC: HP: 18/27. AC: 17. Attack w/ silvered arrow: +1 (+5-4), 1d4+3 damage. Fort save vs. nausea from bats: +5.

On a side note, it might be valuable information to figure out exactly how many silvered arrows we made and who has them. I know Razh had 5s to donate, that brings the total up to 12. Juliana has at least 1, Ogrin has none, Razh will take 6. That leaves 5 left over, more if other people donated silver (which, in our circumstance, they probably did =P).

Thanks for the excellent post with complete stats. You are right, you don't bleed the round you are bit, only the round AFTER. So Raz has 18 HP's until I19 when the bats go, and everyone bleeds.

The arrow does 1d4+3 damage due to strength, unless I'm smokin'. Just a BTW.

POST Round 4 and Round 5 actions...

ROUND 4:

Makeup attack: Raz attacks the swarm as it moves into his square. It provokes an AOO by doing so. Missed this last round. Anyway, Raz rolls a “5”. Question: will Raz EVER hit?

LongTooth 20
Hallidor 20
BatS 19
Slinker 17
Ogrin 16
Stinker 14
Raz 13
Zaeryl 13
Juliana 11
Almayce 6
Vargo & Wolf 1

I20: LongTooth is quite annoyed – quite annoyed. He wants and desires to kill the tripping Juliana, but can’t take a simple 5’ step and attack – there is a durn tree in the way where he wants to go. So, not perhaps the wisest choice, but what he’s gonna do, it simply move to a spot a little more open. This allows an AOO by Huln and by Juliana. I assume Juliana will trip for the AOO. Here goes: she rolls a “3” and misses the touch attack. Man. Huln rolls a “11” and also misses. Man. The rolls are deadly. LongTooth moves to a position down some, and attacks Juliana with his Guisarme. (She’s the only one that’s actually done anything to him).

“I prefer to keep my distance,” LongTooth says, “because I can’t quite say you have been a very polite partner.”

He smiles a rather gruesome smile and attacks – “6” – and misses. Juliana sees her life pass before her eyes, I suspect.

I20: Hallidor, close enough to attack, stands up (MEA), makes a 5’ step, and attacks LongTooth. His standing up provokes an AOO from LongTooth’s nasty weapon, however. “6”, naw. Hallidor shouts with joy, energized by battle (and by recent healing), and attempts to put an end to LongTooth once and for all. Rolls a “16” and hits with his heavy mace! Does 6 points of damage – LongTooth is wounded, at last! (a tiny bit).

I19: The bat swarm, moving to the source of greatest warm and yumminess, gives up on the impenetrable Slinker and creeps over to the grappled Ogrin and Stinker. They are grappling and don’t get AOO’s. So, instead, the swarm just hurts them and Raz. Raz/Ogrin/Slinker takes 3/6/1 points of damage. Slinker shrugs off the bat swarm as a mere inconvenience. Various PC's bleed 1 hit point (if you were bit 1 round ago or previous and not yet healed).

I17: Slinker, well, bits Ogrin’s head off. Rolls a “20”. Hm. Unlikely to be a critical, but we shall see. Threat confirmation? “12”. That misses. Still, Ogrin is bit and takes 6 points of damage. He’s just been hammered these last two initiative rounds! Jeez. Invisible Castle is one mean bastard, far more cruel than I am. By my count, Ogrin’s taken 6+6+3 = 15 points of damage, leaving him a 2. Then he has to save vs. Lyncanthropy. “18” no problem dude!

I16: Ogrin, seriously pissed off, fights defensively and attempts to draw his weapon again. “17”/”14”. Nope. Tries yet again: “16” / “3”. Yes! Ogrin has his short sword out!

I14: Stinker, no longer bothered by any bats (not that they bothered him much in the first place), hack-a-whacks at Raz. Poke/Bite. “1” and “4”. Let’s just say… not in this lifetime.

I13: Raz drops his weapons, pulls out a silvered arrow, and uses it as a dagger. Rolls a “2”. Raz remembers a time when he bit into a buttered roll fresh from the oven and the interior filling, which was boiling marzipan, spilled into his lap burning him. That’s how he feels right now, given his “flurry of misses.”

-- I realize now I forgot to roll the ‘nausea’ save for the bats. Everyone made it this round. I’ll roll again next round. --

I13: Z bleeds.

I11: Juliana does something.
