D&D in the news...

First Post
So, here in Syracuse we have a newspaper called "The Post Standard." I only mention if someone wants to go get a copy of it or microfiche or what not. Two days ago (on Wednesday 5/17) they ran a story about a soldier that had died overseas (trying to avoid politics here, it's not the point anyway). Everyone said he was a great guy, really nice and kind, talented and "well-adjusted", a great asset to community and country.

What I found wonderful is the picture that they chose to show of him. It's in a tent, and him and two other soldiers are playing 3E, they've got character sheets and a white-board map and everything.

Just wanted to share, since it was such a positive demonstration of 3E and role-playing in general.

Hey there LightPhoenix ... I grew up in Syracuse and am also delighted to see the Post Standard's choice of pix.

Whouda thought?

I too spent some time in the Syracuse, NY area. There used to be a good gaming shop, Twilight Books & Games. I wonder whatever happened to it.

In any case, that is a good choice of picture in remembrance; doing something they enjoy and having fun with friends.

A fallen gamer...a fallen hero

Its kind of sobering to think while many of us are gaming in safety and comfort guys like them are out there puting it all on the line so that we may have our safety and comfort. I'll raise a glass to them, and save a seat at my gaming table for them.

The owner and his wife divorced, and he liquidated the business in the settlement. Twilight, despite being in a shady area (with the strip club across the street :) ) was by far and away the best FLGS I have ever been to. Altered States bought a warehouse flat (next to the Spaghetti Warehouse off of Franklin Square, for the locals) and they have a lot of stuff, but the aesthetic of the store is absolutely terrible. It's much too impersonal.

Regarding the picture and troops, all I can say without breaking the "no politics" rule is that I drank a round to them tonight.
