Friday Brush with Celebrity

This was around 88-89 or so. Didn't know he had become a recluse... interesting. He was a nice enough guy during the con (Swamp Con, if you can believe that), but I was just stunned that after I went through all the trouble of sending it to him next day air, he wouldn't even call with a thank you or anything. Burn on me, eh.

Ah, this is how rumors get started... :uhoh:
Plenty of people see him on a day to day basis at work at the new SJG Offices, but Steve doesn't go to cons or trade shows much now a days.

I ran into Lyle Lovitt while walking in downtown Fort Worth about five years ago.

Ah, degrees of seperation time! My current houseguest is Lyle's cousin! (Haven't been introduced yet, though.)
Harry Connick Jr., oddly enough I met him at an adult store the wife of a friend worked at. Bit of a jerk.

Don't know him personally, but my family knows his- his dad was a Criminal (or was it Civil- I forget) Sheriff in New Orleans.

That said, perhaps he was just having a bad day. I know he does a lot of good work in the community- his mom died of ovarian cancer, and he's usually up for fundraisers for it. He also nearly single handedly saved Mardi Gras by forming the Krewe of Orpheus when several major Krewes with racist membership policies were told to integrate or cease parading...so they ceased parading.

When I was about eleven years old, I went to summer camp at a large University. One day, Wilt Chamberlain was shooting hoops at one of the outdoor courts. His entourage/bodyguards had closed off the area so nobody could get to him.

Of course, I climbed through the ten-foot thick hedge and ran up to him with a pen and a piece of paper, asking him for an autograph before his people could eject me. The hundred people watching started cheering.

He said "No." :(

Ahhhh, the memories of youth.

Just met Peter Frampton; he's visiting our ad agency for some reason. :) Got an autograph and everything; he's a very nice guy.

One of my co-workers got a picture of Peter and me:

He's looking really good. But who's that old guy? :D

ROFL.

As you can see from the picture, Peter doesn't have the flowing locks he had in the 70s, but, for a 56-year-old, he is in really great shape.
