Stat Analysis: Progress

One thing I'm noticing: There's pretty much no conclusions I can draw for speed. The GM will just have to handle that.

Here's the nicely formatted version, showing low, medium, and high for:

Hit points, Armor Class, Saves, Average damage, Attack bonus on single attack

Saves were calculated differently from the rest; rather than averaging all 3 saves and adding or subtracting the standard deviation (which didn't look right), I averaged min, max, and average saves. The results look pretty good.

I've got tons of views... any feedback out there? Any ideas for data sources, especially for things like Skills or Save DCs?

Do you have the file with the Pivot Table?
I wouldnt mind having a look at what you have been using for it.

Yes I know I can import the XML file and work from that, but cant be bothered at the moment to be honest - too busy with other things.

It's 20 megs, I don't know where to post it.

I've also resorted to the unthinkable - I'm doing some of my own data entry of non-SRD sources in order to flesh out my analysis.

That is very, very sweet. Makes eyeballing a new critter a whole lot easier. Funny how the low stats REALLY stand out at certain CR's. CR 10's low is actually lower than CR 9's for HP for example. And, what happened at CR 13's hp's? It really stands out. CR 13 looks to have some seriously glass jawed critters.

Yeah, I've noticed that too. There's a lot more I could do with mroe data, though - i.e. look at NPCs vs. Monsters. Just from my unprincipled look at things, most of the creatures cluster at either respectable or high values for most things like AC, but hitpoints can be a bit wackier. I still think the number of dragons in the SRD are skewing the numbers (hence my resort to data entry of my own).

You'd get a lot more mileage out of it putting everything into an actual relational database. MySQL would work and MS SQL Server 2005 Express Edition is free. Then slap a simple front end on it in VB .NET or Java and away you go. This is speaking as a data analyst*
