Peladus frowns at Periwinkle's words.

"Much as I love to play the hero, we have to realize that without the crown we're not going home. Now, I'd rather not leave any prisoners behind when we go but we're not likely to be able to protect them once we've released them - and they probably won't be able to get past the magical gate, or the Hunter's traps, without our help."

"Has anybody seen a bugbear? They sound pretty scary to me. Damn! I shouldn't have wasted a first-level spell on the gate. Well, I've got one strength-draining spell left, so I might be of some help with Grax. I have got a Sleep scroll, so that should take care of a pile of goblins, so long as they're bunched up."

"I'm afraid the crown's the priority - we should go for that first. Still, if you others want to rescue the prisoners, I'll help. Just remember, we may have to leave them to the mercy of the goblins at large."

"Speaking of goblins, what are we going to do about this one?"

OOC: Okay, we have two votes for going after prisoners, and one vote for the crown but that is okay with getting prisoners first if that is the wish of the others. So it looks like we're off to get prisoners. Did we lose Kona'i as well? I'll post the next part soon.

OOC: Sorry so slow. RL is being a pain and I've been too short on time (but what else is new, huh?). I promise I will set the next scene and get the next battle started either tonight or first thing tomorrow morning. Gotta make up the map and everything else.

Following the directions given by the goblin, you make your way to a cave supposedly holding the prisoners. Going down the ten foot wide passage you quickly come to a room off the right side of the tunnel. It looks like a guard post with a table, chairs, and some beds. 4 creatures are within the room: 3 goblins and one larger monster that must be a hobgoblin. Two of the goblins are standing near the table while the other two are lying on their bunks.

OOC: Not sure what you want to do with the original captive goblin...

Peladus has no delusions about the trustworthiness of their captive. After getting the information they want, he knocks it unconscious, ties it up and hides the body somewhere out of the way. Remembering Dair's example, he checks it quickly for any loot before heading off to rescue the prisoners.

OOC: P8, you moved us on to the encounter a bit too quickly. Peladus would have cast Mage Armor from one of his scrolls before entering the cave where the prisoners are being held. That gives him AC 16 for an hour.

Reasoning that he should keep his Sleep scroll for the larger concentration of goblins ahead, Peladus relies on his crossbow to bring down the enemy. He eyes the hobgoblin briefly but recognizes that the monster is harder to hit lying down than one of the standing goblins. He targets the nearest goblin accordingly.

OOC: Crossbow vs G1 (includes bonus for Point Blank Shot): (1d20+3=11, 1d8+1=3)

He then reloads.

OOC: Sorry about catapulting straight into the encounter. No problem with using your Mage Armor scroll or any other actions anyone wants to take before the encounter. I've been so slow lately that I didn't want to give myself another chance to be bogged down in exposition. I figured better to jump into this and allow people to put in whatever actions they wanted between the gate and the new encounter. Also, I'll NPC Kona'i for this battle in the hope that lukfugl will show back up. If he's not back by the end of this fight I suppose Kona'i might decide to follow Dair's example and take off. Or I can keep NPCing him but he won't get XP past where his player dissapeared if he doesn't come back.

OOC: I'm a bit concerned that if we keep losing characters, the rest of us may have a hard time dealing with the challenges, so I'll put in a vote for NPCing the monk. ;)

OOC: No problem, I'll keep NPCing him I guess.

The Hobgoblin jumps up from its bed and snarls at the goblins to attack while it moves forward to square I8.

-Periwinkle and Xir can go...
