[4e] The Wolfcrown, Chapter 1

When the fourth guard is stricken by Doren's holy attack, his eyes begin to go blank, and it appears that he's losing his resolve. Thorn and her cadre of shadows impale the same man on a spike of dark energy. Although he seems physically unharmed, the guard drops his mace.

[sblock=ooc Shayuri]I've got it down here that you've placed shrouds on Guards 2 and 3. Is that right?[/sblock]

Baern's invocation of Blackmoor scalds the spirits of the first two guards, both of whom emit an existential shriek of terror.

Thomas's fire warrior misses the young slinger, but his pillar of lightning emits a burst of crackling blue energy that shocks the fourth guard into unconsciousness.

[sblock=ooc yzard]You've got it down that Thomas used his second wind as a minor action. However, second wind takes a standard action unless the character is a dwarf. Even so, you took too many actions anyway.
1. Summons Fire Warrior (minor)
2. Fire Warrior Attack (standard)
3. Second Wind (standard)
4. Storm Pillar (standard)
5. Move
I resolved this by discounting your use of second wind, so for the record, Thomas still has 15 HP left. Please let me know if I missed something there. Either way, I had Thomas's action-pointed attack kill Guard 4 with double-damage.[/sblock]

Torath's swing misses again, but his foe has already begun to fall unconscious.

[sblock=ooc HolyMan]When Bolstering Strike misses, it doesn't grant temp HP, just so you know.[/sblock]

All eyes turn to Squeal.

[sblock=ooc Phaezen]For the sake of consistency, let's just count Squeal's power bonus from Doren's Righteous Brand for next round.[/sblock]

Squeal, Warforged Barbarian

Risking an attack of opportunity from Guard 4, Squeal turns and move approaches guard 2, raising his sword and trident with grim purpose, bringing the flat of the longsword accross in a viscous swipe, looking to drive the guard back.

Out loud, almost as if talking to itself "Seems to this one that the guards seem to have been positioned to expect an attack from the cells and not from outside"

[sblock=actions]
Move to K9, Pressing Strike (12vs Ac, 13 Damage, push guard 2 to I10)

sorry about that, Thomas was built using the Character Builder and I didn't think about where that came from (likely from an earlier dwarf build)
Funny that the CB still says Legal for the character.

thanks for resolving it that way. I'll try not to play with made-up powers going forward. :)

Squeal ducks under Guard 4's mace as he races across the room. While attacking his target, Squeal is distracted by the shapes writhing within the guard's shadow. Squeal's attack misses, but Guard 2 is frightened anyway.

Beginning of Round 3

With one of their comrades fallen, the castle guards seem determined to hold their ground against you.

Guards 2 and 3 square off against Squeal, and Guard 1 readies his mace to charge Baern.

The slingers load their weapons, and the one standing in front of Thomas's fire warrior shifts partially past it, and both slingers launch missiles at Thorn's flickering form. The fire warrior takes a swing at the slinger, hoping to interfere with its aim. [sblock=ooc yzard]When you post your turn, if you'd like to make the opportunity attack, you can go for it.[/sblock]

The second slinger is distracted by the fire warrior's attack, and his shot misses its mark. The first slinger, however, has much more focused aim, and his missile smacks Thorn in her shoulder. In her insubstantial form, it hurts less, but the slinger knows his mark is almost dead.

[sblock=Damage]Thorn takes 4 damage.[/sblock]

Guard 1 charges with a howl at Baern, but in his rush to reach the dwarf, he fumbles with his weapon, and his inertia carries him too quickly. The guard arrives at his destination without his mace ready, and he stands stupefied, staring at Baern with naught but a dumb look on his face.

Guard 2, with a quick maneuver, attacks Squeal with his mace, and the blow catches the Warforged off guard.

[sblock=Damage]Squeal takes 7 damage.[/sblock]

Guard 2 then swings out around Squeal to set up a flanking maneuver with his ally, but his ally's swing falls short.

[sblock=Enemy Actions]Guard 3 moves to J9
Slinger 2 shifts to C7
Slinger 1 attacks Thorn with a ranged basic attack and hits for 4 damage (reduced from 9 by Insubstantial).

Slinger 2 attacks Thorn with a ranged basic attack and misses.

Guards 2 attacks Squeal with a melee basic attack and hits for 7 damage.
Guard 2 shifts to K10 (after his attack), then to L10 to flank Squeal.
Guard 3 attacks Squeal with a melee basic attack and misses.

Squeal, Warforged Barbarian

Squeal takes the blow stoically and glances at the guard who hit him "You should not have hit this one, you are only making more difficult for yourself". The warforged deftly moves between the guards, longsword and trident striking out rapidly at almost impossible angles.
