Sheng raises his upper lip in disgust at Hakura reaction. "Comradeship." he spits the word. "However your words are, somehow, remotely, logical. I think time will decide who is right, and who is wrong, and I'll be a fool to think that one can hurry time."

At the dragonborn's interjection, the monk waves a hand in his direction. "Get over it lizard. If I would have tried to harm you, you'll not be here muttering."

As Patrin commands the group forward, Sheng approaches from behind. As the door is being slam opened, he proclaims from his position. "Surrender? Slay them all, let the Gods sort them out!"

Raiko opens the door and sees a burly armored man aremd with spiked gauntlets activating a panel. Crossbow turrets drops from the ceiling at the end of the room.

On the sides are sturdy shelves stocked with arcane components, documents and other arcane paraphernalia... but it's on fire! The Archivist seems to have decided your assault warrented drastic actions.

Simulteneously as the fighting, there is a skill challenge. You need to salavage what you can before it burns!

The squares in which the valuables are located are H2, I2, L2, M2 and the mirror squares on row 5.

When in these square, you are exposed to fire. Roll a +4 attack vs Reflex, damage 1 when you enter such a square or start your turn there.

The attack will increase by +1 every round and so will the damage

All skill check are at 17

Standard Actions:

Arcana : You recognize what you need in part due to your detect magic abilities.
Perception : You spot the sigils you were told to look for by your allies despite the smoke
Religion : Hey, religious folks know rituals too.

These all generate a success or failure toward the task.

Move action:

Endurance : Success allow you to hold your breath and endure the heat/pain. Gain +5 to your next skill check
Nature: Success Allow you to avoid taking Fire damage this round.

They drop from the ceiling; they are almost out of reach. An athletic check DC 12 allows to jump and strike it or attempt a Thievery DC 20 to jam it.

If you attack it directly:

AC 16, ref 13, for 13, immune to attack targeting will. 38hp

They attack randomly one target at random, they are immune to marking but they take cover penalty as normal if targeting someone in the rear.

It's a machine; It is immune to attack with the psychic and poison keyword. It has resist 5 against everything else except attacks that have the following keywords : Weapon, Force or Acid

"We don't have time for this," Haruka growls as she pushes her way past her allies. She glares at the room's occupant, "You're dead. You just don't know it yet." Torrents of shadow, flame, and crimson entropy pour from her hands and engulf the armored man, leaving him a charred mewling wreck.

Minor: Designate the Archivist as my Prey, gaining +2 to hit and damage against him until the end of my next turn.
Standard: Vampiric Embrace the Archivist. Hits Will 14 (phew!) for 10 necrotic damage, and I gain 7 thp.
Action Point: Fiery Bolt the Archivist. Hits Reflex 19 for 19 fire damage, and anyone who happens to be adjacent to him takes 14 fire damage.
Free Basic Attack from Max for spending an AP: Eldritch Blast against the archivist. Hits Reflex 21 for 10 damage.

When the dust clears, the archivist has taken 39 damage.

I have Thievery +8, so I can take a crack at those crossbows once the archivist is done.[/sblock]

"Don't wate precious time! Deactivate the magical crossbows, we'll take care of this ignorant fool." Sheng orders and with his structurated moves, he produces an orb of acid that he promptly throws to the archivist. In his haste, his aim was quite off.

Ashir's face drops as he sees the books burning, he lets out a scream of rage and runs past his allies, knocking into them in his haste. He seems to care little for his own safety, running headlessly towards the flames.

"You bastard! My allies will make you pay for this. How could you do this to the precious materials?" the genasi screams.

He begins scanning the materials, picking out important pieces even as tears roll down his cheeks as he knows he will likely be unable to save everything.
