D&D Mini Jackpot!

MortalPlague

On the way to game today, I picked up two packs of minis and hit the jackpot. Inside my Underdark pack was a roper, which looks far better than the Against The Giants one. And in the Deserts of Desolation pack, I found the holy grail; a gelatinous cube!

It's always been frustrating to me that all the D&D mini pictures are poorly shot low-resolution stuff, so I took my camera and grabbed a couple of shots. Just look at the detail on that roper... why don't the new ones have that kind of production value?

Nice catch! I really want a gelatinous cube, but it's so damn expensive :.-( I have a roper from the Against the Giants set, and I really like it. And as for quality, don't you guys think the quality has improved in Legendary Evils and Savage Encounters? Those two sets were nice. Dangerous Delves was rather sucky (the beholder was horrible compared to the Deathknell one, and it couldn't even stand up-right). Dungeons of Dread and Demonweb wasn't all that exciting either, nor was Against the Giants (obviously there were some exceptions). However, I did like Desert of Desolation.

I just hope the Lords of Madness huge set will be as good (or even better!) than Legendary Evils.

UPDATE: I just bit the bullet and ordered a gelatinous cube from Troll & Toad. Currently the last one they had in stock. Sometime during the next 6 months, I will probably order a dracolich as well, which also happens to be super-expensive. I was late to the D&D minis party (started buying when they released Dangerous Delves), and now I'm paying the prize...

So, does the gelatinous cube have a hole on the underside or something? It looks as if it's got that other mini actually inside it...

You can take the base off, so yeah, you can put other minis inside. Our wizard uses it all the time for his Entimb (4e) spell. :D

Huh...I have a Gelatinous Cube and never noticed it had a removable bottom. Then again, I haven't had much use for it- I'm not currently the GM.

FWIW, you can get the same effect- both as a cube or for spells- using those plastic dice boxes from companies like Chessex.

That's true. But the cube mini has such lovely, gelatinous edges... And the cube completely fills a 2 x 2 square area...

And yes, the borrom comes off. Took me some figuring out how to do it, but once it comes off the first time, it's easier the second, third, fourth, etc.
