"We should sweep this level before ascending. I don't like the idea of leaving anything at my back, given that there's bound to be something in front of us. Baracus - can you see around the corner from up there" kal'Tarron whispers towards the front of the line.

Baracus heads on up to take a look and then motions the all-clear, proceeding around the corner himself.

You find yourselves on the second level of the temple's central chamber, looking down on the site of your recent battle. There are tiered areas on either side where once there must have been seating, joined by a walkway directly above the altar. Bronze railings guard the sheer drop to the stone floor beneath. The floor is once again strewn with rubble and detritus, and there is no sign of life - or unlife - or of anything valuable.

"Then don't." says goliath to Mythra.

"Spreading out here doesn't make any difference. At the stairs are we vulnerable. Let's go on. Sooner we go over the levels above, sooner can we look for missing crew."

Assenting to the prevailing consensus, Baracus heads for the stairs up and begins to climb. As soon as his foot hits the first step he utters a startled cry and stumbles, almost falling. He puts one hand against the wall to steady himself and just leans there for a few moments, breathing heavily with sweat beading on his brow. "Damn..." he groans. "Somethin'... somethin' ain't right. Somethin's up there, waiting... I can feel it... ugh. GET OUTTA MY HEAD!"

It's hard to define, but Serris senses a strange taint lying upon this place, as if the very fabric of reality has been warped and corrupted in some subtle way. The source is certainly up these stairs, and must surely be the same thing that is troubling Baracus.
