The best thing they gave me was this insert made to fit around my knee and under the brace that you could hook up, via plastic tubes, to a pump-fitted ice cooler, and circulate ice water through it. Did a lot more for the pain and the swelling than anything else, even though you feel like an idiot sitting on a couch hooked up to an Igloo when your friends stop by.
