Advice on recruiting a female gamer

To the OP,

If you already had a female friend that you wanted to get into gaming then I don't think that would be a problem. But from your post I get the vibe that you're looking for a female stranger to add to your group. Which is going to be kinda creepy no matter how good your intentions.

Honestly I think the best way to go about it is to not look for gender at all. In my experience most female gamers want to be treated the same as everyone else.

Another possibility is that if you feel *really* strongly about adding another female to group, try asking your existing female player if she has any friends she would like to bring along. The only thing more awkward than one woman in a gaming group is two women in a gaming group who hate each other. =P

(stress applied to the above post by me)

Ooo. Good point (I've XP'd too much today or I would have. Getcha tomorrow :).

Had this happen one time in my high school group, yeeeeears ago. It was NOT pretty...and didn't last long...almost sundered the whole group (the "I likes [and/or want to sleep with] her" vs. the "I can't stand her anymore's")

Thankfully, it was a "serious" group of players who were mature enough to realize we were playing D&D not running a dating service and things settled down after a few sessions (and she backed out, realizing it wasn't a dating service).

But...Beware! (IOW "be Aware"!)

Seems appropriate.

Thanks for the advice so far guys. Both the helpful and the hilarious.

I would have the female friend try to recruit friends but she recently moved so she doesn't really have any fellow geeky female friends or know many people around.

I will definetly take allot of this advice to heart and try to find a dice bag big enough to fit in my pants :D.
