I don't recall seeing this earlier, despite the announcement being a few weeks old.

[h=2]WizKids Unveils New Unpainted Miniatures Line for Late 2016 (or early 2017)[/h]Partners with Leading Licenses to Feature Iconic Characters, Creatures and Scenery

Leading board game and collectible miniatures creator WizKids today announced a brand new line of unpainted miniatures, featuring more than 150 unique fantasy sculpts, set to be released in Q4 2016.
The collection will include iconic characters, creatures, and even scene-building elements, all available in three types of specialty packs that will each contain a variety of sculpts:

  • Hero Packs will contain both a low-level and high-level sculpt of the same featured character.
  • Designed with army-building in mind, Monster Packs will contain 1-3 miniatures with different poses of a single monster.
  • Item Packs will contain scenery and items for detailing adventures.
The highly detailed miniatures feature an enhanced sculpting process, which highlights minute elements, and includes deep cut surface detail and scaled features for easier hand painting. They also come in dynamic and exciting poses, are pre-primed with Acrylicos Vallejo paint, and are ready to go directly out of the box. Customize the look and feel of your characters and campaign like never before.
The new line is set to launch in late 2016 and will be available at friendly local game stores world-wide.

It also sounds like there will be a comparable Pathfinder line called Deep Cuts: http://icv2.com/articles/news/view/35605/deep-cuts-pathfinder-miniatures

I imagine this is designed to compete with Reaper's wildly successful Bones line. So far all we're seeing are the 3D renders, which are not always accurate (and suggests clear plastic, which doesn't seem to be the case in the demos below)

No price points that I can see.

You can see all the sculpts in the link below:

Having had both their prepainted minis and some unpainted versions (As the Temple of Elemental Evil board game just uses their molds for the prepainted lines), I always thought they had excellent molds, but eh paint jobs.

I'm looking forward to not having to deal with the latter now.

These look good for those who like to paint their own. Now if I can just get myself to finish painting all of my Space Hulk miniatures from when I bough Space Hulk 3rd edition in 2014, then maybe onto something like this....
You're not the only one sitting on a bunch of unpainted minis already...

I've got the majority (all but 2... yeesh) of the hundred of Bones minis I got from the first two kickstarter campaigns for them still waiting to be painted.

I can see some appeal for these over Bones. Reaper's Bones are decent, but the molds were designed for metal, which has a bit more detail. Some fine features (especially faces) are lost. They're really much better for NPCs and monsters.

A line of minis designed for plastic makes sense, since you can have the "deep cuts" they mention allowing the detail to show through the paint.

Plus, you need to wash Reaper's minis before painting, which is a pain. Hopefully the same doesn't apply here.

I recommend becoming a Critter.

Critical Role is a fun D&D game on Twitch, with fairly lengthy 3 to 4 hour episodes, but it's heavily audio based so you can just listen fairly easily. Set up a paint station by a computer (or set up a laptop/tablet) and listen to people game while you paint.

Thanks for the recommendation. I've actually already enacted all of those steps (though most of my painting that did get done got done while listening to jazz playlists on Spotify).

The thing that keeps sidetracking me is that I keep spending the time I could be spending painting on other projects (like a campaign setting I am designing, or various bits of prep for current and upcoming games), or forgetting to spend my together time with my significant other in our shared office so I can paint rather than in the den watching TV.

Or even right now, when I could be painting, but I left my table messy and the stormy weather has made me very sleepy, so I'm mentally making a pros/cons list to compare brewing a pot of coffee and getting some painting done to taking a nap instead.

I'd have to see these first. I don't paint much that isn't metal, or resin in some rare cases, but Bones are good for larger models.

But god I have such a pile of figures to paint. I need to get through all my Otherworld models first...then the pile of Reaper, then the old figs I've bought....
