Bekah took things in her stride, her new persona was a bit more hands-on than Lady Rebekah which lent itself several advantages. Wistfully she prayed that one day she could breath life into Lady Rebekah; for the moment this suited her better.

Reaching across, careful not to spill her drink, she took a look at the locket, moving it over in her hands. This was an item of quality and more than some simple crafter could afford. Something wasn't right here. This kind of keepsake had the styling of nobility and Bekah bent her mind to studying it for any clues. [roll0]

After a few moments she passes it back, for the moment keeping what she had found out to herself, and surveyed the crowd gathered.

"Spiders?" she asked the strange little girl.

"That would explain the white," mumbled Rana for nobody else than her own self...

She cast a... nervous look at the milling crowd in the room behind before returning her wrinkly gaze to the girl, "And what happened just before the little darlings started becoming a problem umm?"

Aridha knew that raised-eyebrow look. It was the 'Didn't even ask did you' look; there would be pleased cackling if she didn't do something soon.

Emmyr shivered. “Spiders,” he grumbled into his beard. “Why in Moradin’s name did it ‘ave t’ be bloody spiders…” He pulled out his flask and took a long, fortifying pull. “I ‘ate spiders…”

"This locket seems a bit more than simple farmers would have. It has to be legacy of better times or an inheritance. We should talk to the woodcutter works. Woodcutter already said he is willing to pay to have spiders removed."
Zanword listens to the group and the crowded common room. He smiles and waves and winks to men and women, takes and makes toasts and enjoys the attention.
Just not enough to forget that the locket belongs to the poor farmer who probably cannot afford to lose it, both emotionally and financially

Rana gently plucked the locket back from Templeton's hand, with his cooperation, and returned it to the folds of her dress (the very same dress she'd worn yesterday, just cleaned of dirt and the hyena blood that had clotted on the hem).

"Is there an inscription?" she inquired of whoever held the bronze piece at the moment.

As to the rest... "We... likely have enough light in the day to have a *short* look at what's happening in the Westwood." With a stern warning look towards the girl when she started lighting up. A put-upon sigh:"You men will want something sharp to cut webs if we get into trouble, (as if that would ever happen), and something fiery whe- if the gates of hell open up under our feet."

OOC: Rana ready and sort-of willing!

OOC: History on the locket - It was made by an accomplished jeweler for someone above modest means to be sure. How it came to be owned by a farmer's wife is a question you will probably have to ask Hevar-when next you see him.

With the sun nearing noon and the day a wasting the group decides on a trip to see the spiders of the Westwoods.

After battle through the crowds at the inn, and retrieving the pack frog from the stables, the group sets out, with a quick stop by the woodcutter. Tarmin is optimist that the large group should be able to handle the spider menace, but he is afraid he doesn't have enough a reward for so many. Since the group doesn't truly no the scope of the problem (or in Aridha's case if they are actually going to clear the woods of them just yet), the party tells the woodcutter to wait on worrying about the reward, for now.

Ready as they ever will be the party sets off for the Deklo grove.

woodcutters path in the Westwoods

The day is bright and cool, a light breeze keeping the heat of the sun from becoming to oppressive. Following the directions Tarmin gave you to the Deklo Grove, you leave the road and enter the forest following a thin track of dirt that is more animal trail than anything.

Walking through the edge of the forest is pleasant as the trees keep the sun from your eyes, and the shade is pleasant to those of you wearing armor. There are the normal signs of rabbits, birds, and flying insects, but no signs of any spiders, giant or otherwise for the first half hour of your march to the grove.

left spider.jpg But then you start to see the small signs of the dangers that you were told of. Only the normal sized variety start to show themselves the deeper you go. You contend with a web here, and a web there. Sometimes a strand crosses the path, but this changes almost immediately when you arrive at the foot of the grove. The birds and beast of the forest quiet down, and indeed there is hardly an animal to be found, save for one squirrel that has ranged ahead of the group trying to keep its distance. And the webs the webs are suddenly everywhere....

Social_Sp_lrg.jpg

Suddenly there is a thrashing sound off to the left of the path. The squirrel has gotten caught up in the webbing off the path as it tried to escape from the party. The more it thrashes the tighter the webs grip it, and now the noise has attracted a small swarm of spiders from the underbrush. They start to climb a thin tree trunk as they make their way towards their next meal.

OOC: Perception checks along with what you have in hand please. There is a lot to try a see/hear about.

Bekah's nose crinkled at the smell of the place, it was certainly quite close in and she found herself standing a little closer to some of her companions than she normally would have. She cast furtive glances around the gloom [roll0] her hand resting on the hilt of her rapier.

Aridha glares around at the webs and says, "This doesn't look like balance tae me. Somethin's wrong here. What do they even all eat?"

Then that question was answered, or soon to be...and the druid cast a spell, summoning a spirit of flame into her hand. It squatted there, hunched and burning...waiting with evident anticipation to be hurled.

(Perception: [roll0] and casting Produce Flame, just to have handy.)
