D&D 5E Toward a new D&D aesthetics

What is your feeling about the changes in aesthetics of D&D illustrations?

  • I really enjoy those changes. The illustrations resemble well my ideal setting!

  • I'm ok with those changes, even if my ideal setting has a different aesthetics.

  • I'm uncertain about those changes

  • I'm not ok with those changes because it impairs my immersion in the game.

  • I hate those changes, I do not recognize D&D anymore

  • The art doesn't really matter to me either way. I don't buy/play the game for the art.

  • Change in aesthetics? Where? What?

Like I said, I read the words and assumed as little as possible about them beyond what I needed to make the sentence make sense in common english grammar and vernacular. If he wanted to say "softer tone" then he should have said that.
Fair enough. To me, the distinction between the two was pretty apparent. Apparent enough that your response not noticing this distinction seemed doubtful in its integrity. I find this really hard to believe but if the difference was genuinely not obvious to you when you first posted, I apologise. And that's real! No hard feelings. I don't do passive aggressive or grudges :)

Have any of you ever posted on a gaming forum full of fanboys who freak out if you dare criticize anything about their favorite game or developer?....

Right, SB is part of classic art style. I'm talking about modern vs. classic.
An excellent illustration of why "Disneyfied" is such a useless term here, since here you acknowledge even Disney has different art styles. "Classic" D&D art is more in line with with "classic" Disney style, so classic D&D art is just as much "Disneyfied" (for its time) as modern D&D art.

Have you ever seen Lilo and Stich? It's the first thing I thought of when I saw this. The big eyes, the non threatening expression, etc.

Oh, come on. Things like that have existed since 1E - look at the Killmoulis from 1E Fiend Folio.
