I grew up around Pyrocanthus trees and learned to avoid them by their bright red berries and nasty thorns
When I do worldbuilding I always include them but up the ante to make their Fire Thorn name more literal and allow someone who knows what their doing to craft fire arrows out of them

A Title Much Cooler Than Anything on the Old Site
The Sandbox Tree. One of the most dangerous plants in the world.

Two words: exploding fruit.

Even better, they kinda look like pumpkins.

Sandbox tree fruit looks like little pumpkins, but once they dry into seed capsules, they become ticking time bombs. When fully mature, they explode with a loud bang and fling their hard, flattened seeds at speeds of up to 150 miles (241 km.) per hour and distances of over 60 feet (18 m.). The shrapnel can seriously injure any person or animal in its path. As bad as this is, the exploding seed pods are only one of the ways that a sandbox tree can inflict harm.

The fruit of the sandbox tree is poisonous, causing vomiting, diarrhea, and cramps if ingested. The tree sap is said to cause an angry red rash, and it can blind you if it gets in your eyes. It has been used to make poison darts.

There's also just this:

This whole thing,
It’s an amazing place. I was in the area a few weeks back and visited Alnwick Castle and the poison garden; plants are formidable!

My earlier post about the dangerous giant hogweed could link with your idea of plants as nighttime predators; their IRL irritant sap also causes phytophotodermatitis, destroying the skin’s ability to resist sunlight and leading to horrendous sunburn.
The idea of hogweed-created “zombies”, restricted to darkness, stalking the be-forested river valleys of the Scorpion Age as the moon rises.....
