Wow, that article makes me both sad and really anger. :(
Obese people and sex offenders are the last groups it's ok to discriminate against as society sees it. Things have improved for obese people but not much. Michael had a really good piece on sex offenders if anyone cares to read it. The podcast discusses both of these issues.

Feh. Car got repossessed on Saturday, and tax return's not coming in til the 23rd. Getting the car back's gonna take pretty much all of my tax refund, which means that I won't have enough in my account for the insurance and my internet which are both getting taken out soon, nevermind the next car payment.

Sucks to be me.

I had a man ask me for money in the restroom at the gas station. He asked for 53 cents to buy a drink. He had a dollar but needed the rest for a drink. I told him I didn't have cash on me. He then offered the dollar if I'd buy the drink. I said I'll buy the drink. He asked if I wanted the dollar. I said no. The whole time he's telling me he's homeless and just needed a drink. He mentioned a wife. He went to get a drink. He came back with a bottle of tea. I paid for it and handed it back to him. He walked out in front of me. He then got into a CADILLAC and drove away.
I get that a person could have a nice car and still be homeless, but it's a little sus.

Might have been the ast possession they had. We’ve had some interesting vehicles spotted in lines at food banks here in Texas.

OTOH, there’s no doubt that people game the system and scam people. ODB of Wu Tang was part of an MTV news segment in which he drove his Cadillac to the welfare office to get his food stamps (or similar benefit) while wearing a fur coat.* A cousin of mine had a guy trying to use someone else’s Medicaid info to get treatment, and drove off in her Mercede when she was denied.

* I will note that it’s entirely possible ODB still legitimately qualified for those benefits, depending on how WTC’s contracts were structured, and that the car & coat were window dressing supplied by the record label.

Speaking of nice distractions. A game where you get 5 randomly selected photos, and you have to guess when they were taken. I would have liked to get some context on the photos afterwards. And yes, some are really tough. Ranging from 1900 to 2022. You can zoom in, that helps sometimes. My best is 4377 pts.

I had a picture with a little girl with a mask. It made it easy to narrow it down. 😷 lol I guessed 2020, it was 2021. A couple of them I was only 2-3 years off.

One of my pics was a bunch of people in front of the Hollywood sign. They all wore mirrored eclipse glasses, looking up at the sky and holding up modern smartphones. The exact time and location of that particular photo could probably be guessed to within a few minutes and a few meters with little effort. (It was 2017, btw. I remember event well, though I was in Nebraska at that moment in time.)
