D&D (2024) Comeliness and Representation in Recent DnD Art

Even that isn’t really the equivalent to the type of “cheesecake” art of women we’re talking about. When I think about sexualized art of men, I’m always reminded of this piece from MtG that was explicitly made to appeal to “ladies and bro-philic bros” , and the absolute poop storm its reveal stirred up from male fans complaining that it was creepy and inappropriate for the context of MtG:

That's excellent art and there should be more like it.

I mean, I also love that piece lol. But, I belong to the demographic it was made to appeal to. Point being, fantasy art of men in various states of undress are usually made to appeal to straight men. When the art is made to appeal to straight women and gay men, it tends to look different, in a way that is often surprising and can be upsetting to straight men.

I quite don't, but I still like it a lot.

Yeah, I know. But honestly, I think those guys should just get over it. Talk about fragile masculinity! In any case, I think the best approach for having diverse art is having diverse artists, who have appreciation for different things.

This swings a bit too dark and gritty for me, so seems more VtM than D&D.
Would be right at home in Ravenloft though.

And frankly, I'd prefer if D&D in general was more dark and gritty. I guess that is the thing I don't like about some of the D&D art,* things being too "clean" and nice and polished.

*(I didn't say newer art, as it has always been a thing, but perhaps it has gotten more so.)
