Trailer Fallout - Official Trailer

If Amazon switches to weekly releases for season 2, get ready for a solid drop in quality. Every time they meddle with an outside production, it ends very badly. I am keeping my fingers crossed, but I have zero faith in Amazon.

That said, Season 1 was much much better than I could have expected. The writing was whip smart, entertaining, and at times unpredictable. They stuck to as many tropes as they did subvert them, and I was honestly guessing where the next scene was gonna go. Bravo.

You don't actually have to change the production schedule to slow down the release rate.

Also, it's a gorgeous show. Do I have a bad eye for this, or was a majority of it all practical?
It's an interesting mixture.

You have an absolute ton of scenes where there are some practical FX but there's also CGI being used to essentially create the backdrop or to do horrific injuries or the like. The injuries themselves are a mixture of CGI and FX, which CGI predominating (like most of the various horrific foot injuries are CGI - indeed one I think was too horrific in the CGI for how the character actually acting). The fighting has more wirework than is commonly seen these days - this is a good thing, imho, wirework is cool

The monsters are almost purely CGI, but I understand a lot of the Mr Handy stuff is practical FX with CGI just to hide the wires etc.

Apart from the CGI cyclopean eye and ghoul nose removal, most of the mutations/deformities/horrible teeth etc. seem to be practical. Like one ghoul I'm pretty sure they CGI'd her face but the actress is also wearing non-CGI scary gloves for the hands.

There are some scenes where there's a slightly awkward combination of practical and CGI, like one where someone gets shot in the head, and injury is CGI, but the blood splatter appears to be practical (I could be wrong but it's weird in a different way if so!).

So I dunno about the "majority", but it's very clear they tried to use practical FX a lot more than is typical, and the show looks and feels better for it.

I meant in the do we recognise any actors as I know none?
I mean, I recognised a huge proportion of the actors. One of my few talents in life is recognising people (I suspect I might be a "super-recogniser", which would er... qualify me for a poorly-paid job in airport security) though so I might be better at it than most.

The most obvious ones would be:

Walton Goggins - From countless shows but particularly Justified
Michael Emerson - Lost, Person of Interest, etc.
Kyle McLachlan - I mean come on man, he's been in tons of shows and movies for decades, including iconic ones like Dune (1984), Twin Peaks, and Desperate Housewives (and done like single episodes of half the shows on TV).

Beyond that it's mostly character actors, i.e. "It's that guy from that other show!" - Zach Cherry, Leslie Uggams and Sarita Choudhary for example, as well as a ton of comedians in smaller parts (Matt Berry, Jon Daly, Chris Parnell, Fred Armisen etc.).

He'll flip ya...Flip ya for real...

This wasn't meant to be a schedule vs dump debate. Amazon has a history of taking shows produced by others in house and ruining them. This would be the first sign such is happening. I'd be happy to be wrong in my prediction for once. So far Amazon has a straight let down track record.

Ok so anyone still trying to deny Bethesda "don't get it" lol jesus absolutely wept:

For anyone unfamiliar with FO1, what this means is that apparently if you play the male character in FO4, you're guy who agrees with war crimes (and thus a war criminal), and thinks publicly executing POWs in the name of empire is not only cool, but really funny - literally the other guy shoots him, then "our hero" (apparently) yuks it up - in the original game the entire point where is that the US soldiers are scumbag war criminals being obviously falsely presented as heroes. And no he's not joking - that's why he clarified "not the shooter", because he's so out of touch he thinks that agreeing to and laughing about a war crime is okay, so long as you didn't pull the trigger on camera.

I get that's not what ol' Emil thinks he's saying, but is, unavoidably, what he actually saying. Reason he doesn't get it is that he doesn't understand this really basic scene which almost everyone would immediately understand, in FO1.

All I can say is thank god for Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet (I notice they change back and forth per episode in the credits as which is credited it first to keep it equal!), who are the actual showrunners and main writers for actually "getting it".

Also just so this can happen to more people - Fallout 1 came out 27 years ago.

That's over a quarter of a century. If you'd told me as a kid that there would be a Fallout TV show starting in 2024, I wouldn't have believed you, because I would have thought the window for a TV show like that would have passed by then!
