Dungeons & Dragons has announced a new Unearthed Arcana focused on horror subclasses. The new UA, available now on D&D Beyond, introduces a mix of new subclasses and thematic subclasses from 2014 5th Edition. The full list of subclasses are as follows:
  • College of Spirits Bard
  • Grave Domain Cletic
  • Phantom Rogue
  • Shadow Sorcerer
  • Heblade Patron Warlock
  • Undead Patron Warlock
  • Reanimator Artificer
  • Hollow Warden Ranger
The Reanimator Artificer is built around creating a reanimated companion that can act in combat and explodes when it dies. The Hollow Warden Ranger adds a Wrath of the Wild feature that activates when casting Hunter's Mark and adds various emanation effects while active.

No word on what this UA is related to, but there is a mystery product coming out in October and these horror subclasses could tie into a potential Ravenloft book.

You can check out the full Unearthed Arcana here.

I was talking about combat spells with concentration.

That's only 6-7 good ones before splatbooks.

Again

Ranger combat spells with concentration.
There are only 6-7 good ones. Not "I can't do anything because Hunter's Mark" that many claim.
Dude 6-7 good ones is plenty for it to be a problem.

And the spells I mentioned show that you’re wrong about 5e having some consistent design philosophy against letting a character ever stack strong spells. The bloody Paladin can stack divine favor and bless and still smite, for goodness sake.

When was the last time WotC announced a book for D&D and then had to push it back that far? I can’t thinking of a time for 5e where that has been the case.
There was the production issue witht he physical Deck of Many Things, bit that is a special circumstance. Other than that, the unannounced and then quietly canceled without ever being announced Elemental Evil splat book is the closest I can think of...and that is over a decade ago.

WotC has a track record of products slated for October coming out in January. They tend to be over-optimistic about how long something will take, particularly later in the year.
Not really? Once they announce a date they have been very consistent on meeting it (except for the recall on the Deck or Many Things). That's part of why they don't seem to announce things often.

Still, a UA in May for a release in October is a normal turnaround, and since they have announced a book in October it seems like Occam's Razor to suspect thwt these are for the October book...whatever that might look like over all.

The fact that 6 of those spells are similar seems consistent.
Ensnaring Strike is the odd one out.

With the big animal spells gone I really can't see the extreme drive for using 2 buff/debuff outside of the desire to cheese.

Good lord. Whatever.

I’m not gonna keep indulging this.

Not to defend his point, but Monsters of the Multiverse had its stand alone release months after it was on D&D Beyond and the Gift set.

That said, I'd much prefer the October book be Ravenloft/horror based than Lorwyn.

But was it announced for a simultaneously releasez or was that a marketing plot to sell bundles and Beyond content...? Honestly don't remember.

I think now that Lorwyn is coming next year, since these are not Lorwyn-centric options and are clearly for the October product: which tracks with the card set coming next year.

Per the best source I could find quickly, they had production problems and focused on getting books info you gift set for the holidays as priority. The stand alone copy came out in May when they could get a larger print run done.

Sounds lwfit...but Imnot sure if they had backtracked on a previously announced release schedule? Maybe @WinningerR has some recollection.
