I just saw on ex-Twitter that D&D Beyond announced in their new update that they have now added checkboxes on the first page of the character creator to allow you to enable or disable the five different options of rules sources-- the 2024 Core Rules, the 2014 Core Rules, Expanded rules, Legacy rules, and Homebrew rules. So now (in theory)... anyone who is choosing to only still run the original 5E14 game can turn all the new 5E24 rules off so that you won't have to have the confusing overlap of old and new rules anymore.

Granted, I have not fiddled with it-- I only partially made a new 2014 character to try it out for a little bit-- so perhaps there are still some issues. But at least it's a start and anyone who is running a 5E14 game will be able to tell us better whether the system is now able to serve your needs.

Within the character builder, that's good. But, if you run a search, I expect it will continue to present the mix of results. A checkbox for that on the search would be valuable...

I don't use DDB much anymore, but I'm glad to hear that it's actually getting updates and support outside of new sold content and Maps.

I saw this too, shame it took them so long, I have written DDB off this is just one of the many reasons I left the platform. Oddly after quitting DDB I have more fun and more players in my groups.

I'd like a set of checkboxes for all searches. I'm using the 2024 rules, but when searching for monsters for example I have to select my sources to eliminate creatures I don't want. My workaround is to copy the query string with all the options selected, but it's still annoying.

Yeah they were actually promising this was "coming soon" from about 2018 through 2023, but then it seemed to vanish as something they were promising. It should absolutely be doable - they're just querying a database, but I think they don't because they feel people getting bad results increases book sales.

In Roll20, the 2024 rules were automatically deployed into all 5E games--so if you were playing 5th Edition on Roll20, you suddenly found two versions of everything in your existing game. It was quite confusing, especially when players would pull up spell descriptions or feats or whatever in the middle of a game and accidentally grab the wrong version.

Thankfully, Roll20 fixed it pretty quickly: the 2024 rules were moved into their own set of documents. If you want to add them to your existing game, you add them manually to the Compendium yourself (like any other supplemental product). The 2024 rules are now the "default" option for new 5E games on Roll20, but it's easy enough to select the 2014 rules from the dropdown during setup.
