Intrusive Ads

I know this site and associated publications involve considerable expense and effort; and I don't begrudge some degree of advertising.

But the pop-up ads that expand browser margins are REALLY intrusive and toxic. As in, enough that they make me want to leave this site altogether.

I used to have adblock, then got rid of it. In practice the number of sites that were blocked with a "please whitelist us" was more troublesome than the ads. I had trouble getting the whitelist function to work on multiple occasions. So when I switched computers I didn't bother.

The pop up expansion ads may change that for me.

They haven't changed in the last couple of years, and they are necessary to keep this place open.

However, a community supporter account gets rid of them completely, and also allows you to help support the site and the community! It costs less than a cup of coffee.

With respect, I’ve had this exact conversation a LOT of times so rest assured I am fully apprised of all the arguments and have nothing further to add (and don’t have the bandwidth to engage in another debate about it). If that means you feel you have to leave, we’ll be sorry to see you go, but it is what it is and I feel I need to be as clear as possible. :)

I don’t like the obnoxious ads either, but the real drum I’ve been beating lately is subscription. There are a buttload of prolific posters here who aren’t subscribers. They clearly enjoy ENWorld, but evidently haven’t bothered to consider a dollar value for they enjoyment they get.

I think a lot of us have taken quality media for granted for so long that we expect it to be “free”, but those days are long gone. If we want to enjoy something, I think we all need to step up and pay appropriately for it rather than griping that the service needs to include ads or raise prices to survive.

Well, I guess THIS Post was the one that took me over the edge to finally subscribe. Sometimes your pants need kicking, and sometimes you need a kick in the pants
