Intrusive Ads

One might suggest that the day I have to resort to paying people to post is the day I close the forums. At that point, the very concept has catastrophically failed.

Fortunately, we are nowhere near the point where we have to resort to paying you to post. Sorry to disappoint.

I didn’t suggest you pay anyone…

I don't know any other RPG site with the pop-up ads. They are so annoying and aggressive. But I guess the sentiment is that you pay for no ads which I guess is fair enough.

Granting a gift is not paying. Especially when it’s a gift that costs one nothing.

How much it costs the giver is not relevant. Whether a thing is a gift or not depends on whether there's an exchange of value. If I give you something, and get nothing in return, then it is a gift. If I give you a thing because you gave me something of value, I am paying for that value.

You were the one who said perks should be given to prolific posters, "who drive clicks and subs, as they are probably a net positive to the bottom line." That means that the perks are being given in return for actions that are financially beneficial to Morrus. That's paying people to post, especially if it is a general practice or site policy - then it becomes a pay schedule!

Imo there is a conceptual difference. If I run games at a con and they give me a comped badge, I wouldn't consider it to be paid GMing. Ime folks, myself included, who are opposed to paid GMing are fine with that practice. Granted, it is a subtle distinction.
