Fake TTRPG Kickstarter Ads on Facebook?

Reynard

aka Ian Eller
I am not sure what board to file this under, so I put it here.

Has anyone else run into fake Kickstarter ads for TTRPG related stuff coming across their feeds. I got one for "K-Pop DnD Hunters" this morning and I tried to follow up (because it felt like a crass sash grab) but its does not seem to exist. I wish I had taken a snip of it, but I did not and now I can't find anything about it again.

I would have guessed that there is a lot of vaporware, but I had not encountered a fake ad before. Or, at least, one I realized was fake.

What would be the point? And if it wasn't fake, why can't I find it again?

It would feel real weird if that happened all within 5 minutes this morning.
It might have been that you just happened to see it just before a whole bunch of faux-K-Pop Demon Hunters stuff got taken down. Or that they called it "K-Pop DnD Hunters" in the ad, expecting you to click directly, but they don't use that actual terminology to describe the game in any of their press, or have sufficiently bad SEO that it can't be found.

As an aside, I was at some legal awards a couple of weeks back and people could push selfies with captions to one of the big screens, and I think I realized K-Pop Demon Hunters was probably "over" as being in any way cool when I saw two 40-something white lawyers (one of them male) describing themselves as such on said screen.

Within 5 minutes of it showing up in your feed, but not necessarily 5 minutes of the launch. And scammers aren't exactly known for caring what happens to their posts, after they've been caught, as they usually have several layers of anonymity between the scam and themselves.

Update:
The ad finally reappeared in my feed.

There is still no indication that the product or campaign exist, and Wrenegade is a marketing agency. Maybe they are fishing for liked and if they get enough they will create the product after?

Wrenegade Crowdfunding appears to be a Kickstarter consultancy, so they charge to assist people with running a successful campaign. I know someone who has done the same, after having done maybe a dozen very successful campaigns themselves. The "Coming Soon" likely indicates that responding would get you signed up for notification if/when it went live on Kickstarter (not to mention every other campaign they every guided in future).
