What are you watching in (late 2025 and) 2026?

Almost done with a rewatch (intro my friend) of B5. Near the end of the last season.
I did a rewatch last year with my wife; she hadn’t seen it before. I was scared it wouldn’t hold up, but it did, surprisingly well. Acting is acceptable or better, and Jurasik and Katsulas are doing far more than a daytime sci-fi show deserves. The special effects are ropey but the space stuff is tolerable - it’s only when they try to use CGI indoors that it really shows its age.

Skipped the 5th season - my wife was enjoying it and i wanted to quit while I was ahead.

Way too much anime, currently:
  • Frieren: Beyond Journey's End
  • Jujutsu Kaisen
  • Sentenced to be Hero
  • There was a Cute Girl in the Heroe's Party, so I Tried Confessing to Her
  • Gnosia
  • Jack of all Trades, Party of None
Also continuing my quest to watch every episode of Dr Who. Up to season 17 (4th Doctor, Tom Baker, with Romana II, Lalla Ward). After finishing up this era, going to watch the newer animated 1st and 2nd Doctor serials. Then onto Peter Davison (5th Doctor).

I discovered that Marvel did a Cloak and Dagger series and just finished watching that. I'm also watching West Wing and just finished Sherlock, neither of which I'd seen before. In-between I'm re-watching an episode The Mandalorian.
What did you think of Cloak and Dagger? I haven't made time for it yet but heard interesting things.

How about West Wing? I've watched the first 5 seasons, some of the early stuff multiple times. It's a favorite in my family, but it's been a while since I revisited it.

I liked it. It started reaaaaallly slow, but picked up after 5 or so episodes and then never looked back.

I'm really liking it as well. I'm only in season 3, though. So much to watch, so little time to see it all.

i love the west wing, but that said some of it hasn't aged well. It's very idealistic and that's okay. I need to watch it again and then do the West Wing weekly podcast.

Speaking of not aging well...

I was just rewatching Airwolf. I loved that show as a kid. It's what helped make me love military aviation so much (and was a reason I went into military aviation when I graduated).

But man. TV shows and movies back in the 80s, when the lead character was cool, and smooth, and tough, and all the ladies wanted him? Watching them now, and they are all just red flag after red flag. Extreme narcissistic behavior where they emotionally abuse those around them. It's like a trope where they hurt the people close them, then blame those people for getting hurt because "they just don't understand what I go through!!" All these dudes don't need to "get the girl", they need therapy.

It's the same for a lot of old media, of any type. Try listening to a love song by The Monkees, these days, and you'll wonder why the girl didn't get a protective order.
