Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

Not a mini but had fun printing and painting (pure drybrush over black print and a dark wash to tone down the brightness for the helm, gold and some flesh wash and bright gold stipple for the base) this Sauron Helm

Tonight's batch. These are the first ones I've done since I bought a bunch of additional speed paint colors so still trying to figure out what I have to work with now. I did feel brave and followed Minsc's advice to go for the eyes on one and yeah...we'll save that for another time. I need to get some varnish next, not only to preserve the paint jobs but also so I can try layering on things like the fire effect.

These were all primed white. When I prime my next batch I think I'm going to go with the black prime/white drybrush.

Oh, one last note, I must not have used enough plastic glue when I glued them to their bases a few weeks ago, I had two pop off midst painting and had to re-glue them.

Monument Texture Trainers are the perfect way to test your skills and try new techniques on a larger miniature! We incorporate many different materials in the sculpt to allow you to practice painting textures and really focus on your method for each portion of the model. We also use a relief sculpting style, so you only have to focus on painting the front-facing side of the figure, letting you dive into new lighting and focus directions more easily.

My plan is to tackle each individual component and work on it until I'm happy with it. It's not like I'm on a schedule or something, so I can take my time. I started with the armor and decided to make a reddish leather. I've already gone back-and-forth with highlights and washes for shadows, but I think I need to work on the contrast. In general, I think contrast is something I need to work on across the board.
