General star wars talk/discussion/complaining

For me the outstanding Star Wars novel of this or any other era is Claudia Gray’s Lost Stars, which is basically a standalone space opera novel about two kids who end up on opposite sides in the Rebellion Era, ending with one of them crashing her Star Destroyer into Jakku. I particularly liked the character of one of her best friends, an Alderaanian Imperial officer who doubles down on fascist loyalty after the destruction of Alderaan.

That's one i mentioned. It and the Thraen books are the only ones with a good reputation. Came out 10 years ago iirc.

Before that's your takeaway from this thread -- has anyone read any of the more recent books?

This might simply not be the place to ask this question.
I read the first two High Republic books - it’s a really good setting and high concept (I’ve run a game in that era and would do so again) but the story itself I was a bit overblown, like a long comics crossover I didn’t really care about.

What counts as "more recent"? I've read the newer Thrawn books, Dark Disciple, Catalyst, Ahsoka, Lords of the Sith, the Rise of Empire, Lost Stars, From A Certain Point of View (Ep4), Battlefront: Twilight Company, Bloodline, and the Aftermath trilogy. That last wasn't great, but the others were all decent. I know there are newer books, but those are all Disney era.

Been craving some Star Wars ttrpg play lately.

Trouble is, my wife won't play SAGA because the accuracy math makes too many wasted turns and it is so damn fiddly.

So i am torn between using SW5e, even though i dislike things like using "half your XYZ modifier", and I i am just not sure about how granular it is.

So im wondering if anyone here has use 5e and just reflavored everything?

I recently did a simple 5E based Star Wars RPG based on the first SW d20 rules (the ones with Wounds and Vitality). There are plenty more complex and comprehensive versions about on the internet (heck, you could use Esper Genesis* if you want something published, the QuickStart is free on DTRPG).

*Esper Genesis isn’t SW but it’s very adjacent and you could use it for a non-standard setting like the High Republic or suchlike.

Sadly I have no idea how well all of these work (not least my own game) and what might be more or less annoying about them.
