For me the outstanding Star Wars novel of this or any other era is Claudia Gray’s Lost Stars, which is basically a standalone space opera novel about two kids who end up on opposite sides in the Rebellion Era, ending with one of them crashing her Star Destroyer into Jakku. I particularly liked the character of one of her best friends, an Alderaanian Imperial officer who doubles down on fascist loyalty after the destruction of Alderaan.

That's one i mentioned. It and the Thraen books are the only ones with a good reputation. Came out 10 years ago iirc.
