WotC just mailed out VILLAGE OF HOMMLET 4E..got mine

Heck, my village has barns that are substantially older than the US. I live in one. (To be clear, it has been converted into a house. . . .)

WotC just mailed out VILLAGE OF HOMMLET 4E..got mine

So I've yet to receive a firm confirmation from WotC, but the tentative information I've been given lines up with Pedr's post. The adventure is part of the DM Rewards programme; if you're signed up for that and eligible for this reward, you should be getting it by post sometime in the near...

WotC just mailed out VILLAGE OF HOMMLET 4E..got mine

This is the first I've heard of it, but I'll see if there's anything we can do for the UK/Ireland.

    Retreating: Creating decision points

In the most recent installment of his blog (here), the tremendous Matt Colville addresses the issue of retreat in combat--and particularly, how to convey sufficient information to the players not just so they can make a good retreat decision, but also to cue them to make it at all. Matt starts...

    Area of a medieval town?

Fire is a can of worms you might not really want to open, or you'll be moving into a whole new universe of urban design that might not end up with your cities and towns looking anything like you imagined. In real medieval times, fire was a very serious threat to urban life. The word "curfew"...

    Area of a medieval town?

That might be a little tight, if there's a market (and in real medieval towns, the market was the raison d'etre)--maybe 200 - 300 yards on a side would be more "realistic." But not too far out of line if the main function of the town is huddling behind the defenses of the palisade.

WWDDGD in the UK--Meet WotC's Stephen Schubert at Eclectic Games

Hello, all-- WotC and Eclectic Games in Reading are pleased to announce that Eclectic will be the UK headquarters site for the 23 May WWDDGD event. Joining us at Eclectic, straight from WotC in Seattle, is Lead Developer for D&D Stephen Schubert. Steve will be on hand to answer questions, sign...

WWDDGD 2009 in the UK--list of sites

Hi, Matt-- Yes, unfortunately there are no shops in London that have the space to run an event. It's ironic, but it's a common problem in many major cities. As I mentioned over on UK Roleplayers, any gamers or clubs that would like to run an event and have a venue could partner with one of the...

    Area of a medieval town?

Not big, if you're talking about a pretty realistic medieval town. A market square (50 to 100 yards on a side, not necessarily square in shape) and a couple irregular blocks in each direction. A couple points of reference from here in the UK: The two historical market towns nearest us both have...

Worldwide Dungeons & Dragons Game Day Monster Manual 2: 23 May 2009 Hi, all-- As you probably know by now, in 2009, Worldwide D&D Game Day is being celebrated on three dates, corresponding to the release of the three “2s”—Player’s Handbook 2; Monster Manual 2; and Dungeon Master’s Guide 2. As...

    The Player's Handbook Miniatures

Yeah, the next set is less than three months away, and they'll be pretty regular after that. So I'd expect complaints (however legitimate) about the lack of this or that race, class, or gender to dissipate pretty quickly.

Amazon delays again (aka "No PHB2 for Russ")

Hi, all-- WotC has nothing to do with sales of D&D to Amazon UK, so this isn't the place to accuse them of yet another conspiracy (or even to call them stupid). Amazon, like every other UK retailer, is serviced by Esdevium Games, who distribute D&D in the UK. You can direct your gripes at us...

WotC puts a stop to online sales of PDFs

You know, I work from a marketing and PR budget. Although I've never done so, I suppose I could imagine someday having to use some of that budget to give me a scapegoat for something. But could I imagine spending tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars? Legal cases are expensive. Cross-border...

    What Are You 12?

Most of these points have been covered to death, so just put me down as a "me too!" on the majority view. I do have something to add on point 1, though. I've worked in R&D at four different RPG companies, including WotC. This isn't the first time I've heard someone claim that ideas have been...

WotC puts a stop to online sales of PDFs

Hi, all-- Before I write anything else, I want to reiterate that I'm not a WotC employee. Aside from a little more context, I don't have any more info about what's going on than anyone else. But here's what my context tells me: Back in about 2004 or 2005 I launched the first PDF sales of...

    Why DON'T you pirate?

I certainly like the courtesy answer, and I was about to say the same thing. But the bottom line is ethics. I'm not willing to sell off my honor for the price of an RPG book. Heck, if I had the opportunity to drive off in someone else's brand-new Lambourgini, with every reason to believe I'd...

WotC puts a stop to online sales of PDFs

I doubt this very much, for a couple reasons. First, because WotC does have its own legal department, and second because a policy change like this, including the decision to take legal action, would be Brand-led, not Legal-led. [I know the "Hasbro corporate suits" boogeyman is one of the...

    Improving as a DM?

Play! A recent thread talked about things you learned as a DM from playing. I think I learned some of my best lessons from playing with really good GMs. And even playing with less good GMs can help, as you start to see things that don't work out well.

WotC puts a stop to online sales of PDFs

As a PDF user myself (PDF + iPhone = always having D&D with me!), I'm surprised and saddened by this news. But what's really floored me is all the melodrama on this thread. WotC took some old products off the market, and eliminated the availability of products in a particular format. Companies...

Does 4E uniquely lend itself to humour?

Hi, all-- So a couple days ago WotC posted their April Fools delve, in which they managed to make the carbuncle an interesting--while still completely goofy--monster. Today Bad Gods posted a set of goofy magic items--which, while funny, are also interesting and useable. Is there something...
