    D&D 4E 4E: Manufactured Excitement

This is why fourth edition excites me and why I'm happy it is coming. While it is undeniably true that WotC the corporate entity does not care about the quality of a product as long as it sells, I believe that the individual employees do in fact have loftier goals for the line. My single...

    D&D 3E/3.5 Does 4e sound more D&Dish to you than 3e did?

more D&Dish? In the regards you later reffer to yes. I am excited to face monsters that I am not intimately familiar with the mechanical workings of, having used them in my own games. that is always a temporary thrill though. The magical feeling of the unknown is a finite resource, lasting only...

D&D 4E Thoughts About 4E Wanted for Magazine Article

For the record: I've been through this before. Suddenly the game I've been playing for most of a decade is not good enough and concepts that had been humming right along with little or no griping from anyone in my group are being replaced by something new and shiny. What I have heard of the new...

    Simpler AoOs

I kind of like what they did in star wars saga two actions provoke an attack of opportunity -moving out of a threatened square other then the withdraw action or tumbling -performing an action that distracts you from defending yourself while in a threatened square ie unarmed attacks w/o martial...

    D&D 4E Are you a 4e playtester?

I have the perfect group. 6 people ranging from 22 to mid 40's gaming twice per week, every week. I am an RPGA member and signed up for DnD insider at the earliest opportunity. Of course I'm not a playtester. Stupid random emails.

    How many are playing SAGA?

To be honest, the things about saga that do not port to DnD style gaming can be attributed to the style of the star wars movies. The Heroes never wore armor but the mooks did, so in the game higher level PC's and villians do not need armor. The force is only supposed to work against the weak...

Is the Warlock going to kill the sorcerer and take his stuff?

to be frank, we don't need two classes so similar that they use the same spell list. I think the warlock ate the sorceror's concept the moment it sprang into existence. Between the two I'll take the Warlock simply because of it's lack of similarity to the wizard. With what they are doing to the...

Why do YOU want a new edition

The reasons I want a new edition are as follows: When third edition was released, all I saw was the inprovements over 2E, now all i can see are the flaws that have been mentionel by previous posters. Because when I GM'd Iron Heroes, a d20 game that was written by Mike Mearls, I thought that...

    Ridiculous amount of buffs

Yeah, I agree with Piratecat on this one, the best way to get rid of that mentality is to adjust the pacing of an adventure so that it's not an option to spend only 20 minutes a day trying to prevent the apocalypse. It's easier to do with some adventures then others but with RttToEE for example...

What gameworld would you want to be in?

Game of thrones rpg, I would want to last an adventure or two and then be brutally killed or maimed in some fashion.

How many of you came close to selling off your stuff?

I sold all my 2e stuff in about 1998 or so. all the class and racial handbooks, skills and powers, spells and magic, combat and tactics, all my planescape box sets, all my fr box sets, I have given away more 3e stuff then i would care to recall. I am so not going to think about this anymore...

D&D 4E What would you like 4E to look like.

I would like to see an extreme reduction of the implied number of magic items within the game. Also the method of making them. X-gp and Y-xp has never sat well with me. It lacks the cool factor of having to go out and find displacer beast pelts, feathers from a phoenix, vampire tears, grave moss...

Paladins and the Mentally Instable People that Play Them

The crazy paladin player is a new one on me. I know a guy who uses heroic characters from the stories of his faith as inspiration on how to play a paladin and has said that in a fantasy midieval world that is the niche he would see himself fitting into but i would say it just makes him really...

    What would soften the blow?

Put me squarely in the "make it do what i like better then 3.X does" camp. As for what that might be, I'm not even sure. I was not happy with 2e by the time 3e was announced and I'm finding my interest in WotC products is reduced with each year of 3.X. I may be ready for 4e as I find myself...

What are the Differences between High-Fantasy and Futuristic/Cyberpunk Games?

In shadowrun, the computer hacker or "decker" enters what is called "the matrix" and it's kind of like the movies except that everyone knows they are in it. He has to deal with security programs that can fry his brain, concealing himself from other users and other nasty possibilities...

After being DM can PLAYING ever be as good?

It has great affected my enjoyment of poorly run games or those that focus on combat over all else. I do however enjoy critiquing other people's campaigns, silently of course, to see what I might have done differently. It was my tendency to do that as a player that lead to me starting to dm. I...
