    PH3 - Battlemind

We know--or, rather, think we know--a lot about the battlemind (and the runepriest, the PHB3 divine class) already: http://www.enworld.org/forum/d-d-4th-edition-rules/270945-new-class-race.html

    new 4E titles for Sept/Oct 2010

The Rules Compendium and Gamma World are released in successive months. The RC is probably a genre-agnostic presentation of the essential 4E rules, divorced of things like race and class, so that genre-specific settings can plug into it without every single one having to say "and none of the D&D...

    What is currently inspiring you?

Pre-Christian Logos theology, most especially 1 and 3 Enoch, but also the Exaltation of Melchizedek, and what I believe is still an unpublished paper (by a friend) on pre-Christian Jewish Metatron cults. Also various psychic desert messiah types in modern fiction, e.g. Paul Atreides and Luke...

How Can You Politely Say, "Your Character Sucks?"

Thanks to GMforPowergamers for rightfully pointing out my error. 16 is a +3, not a +2, and so it would require a 10 to hit.

    New Class and Race?

Thaaaaat is really neat. Does it end when the target hits 0 HP? I'm struck that it's apparently a (presumably melee) weapon power, occupying a design space usually reserved for implement powers. I also like the solution for the prevalence of necrotic-resistant undead being "whatever, I guess...

How Can You Politely Say, "Your Character Sucks?"

It's the only aspect bound intimately tightly to his character's Intelligence score, so it's the part we can talk about. Everything else is just angels-on-pinheads what-if.

    New Class and Race?

Emphasis mine. the existence of a close blast attack makes me think that it's a weapon + implement class. Whether that's like a swordmage and monk (weapon is implement) or like a cleric, paladin, artificer, et al. (weapon and implement are separate items) remains to be seen.

How Can You Politely Say, "Your Character Sucks?"

The balance point is 16 (+2) in primary stat for 50% chance (11 or more on d20) to hit skirmisher AC (level + 14) at level 1 with a +2 proficiency weapon, or with an implement vs. NAD (level + 12). You don't have to optimise, but a character who is deliberately not only suboptimal but...

    New Class and Race?

A large part of a fighter's or assault swordmage's threat as a defender--that is, the ability to do the class's job--is the threat of decent melee basic damage. This constrains the ways to effectively build a member of these classes without hurting ability to contribute to the party. The...

    New Class and Race?

If the minotaur has not, as he said above, changed detectably from previous publication, then they will remain highly melee-focused. Also, we know that the wis-based psion is a telekinetic specialist, and we've gotten some hint about the con-ardent, which I unfortunately can't recall offhand.

    New Class and Race?

Does the runepriest have any build-dependent class features, or is that mechanical slot being filled by the per-round selectable rune-states?

    New Class and Race?

The battlemind in question is almost assuredly con-primary, wis-secondary. I'm very interested in both confirming that, and learning what the runepriest's primary and secondary stats were.

    New Class and Race?

Sorry to pile on with additional questions, but I'm curious: do you have any recollection as to whether the new classes had weapons, or implement-type (staff, orb, wand, rod, tome, holy symbol, ki focus) items?

    New Class and Race?

Any recollection of the shardmind's ability bonuses or other racial traits? And did they do anything interesting with the minotaur, compared to its prior published versions? Edit: Looking at it, they appear to have picked optimal race/class arrangements for these characters--and so, we can...

    Dark Sun Previews Start February

http://community.wizards.com/dungeonsanddragons/blog/2009/12/17/transcript_of_the_chat_with_rich_baker! The word "giant" only appears before the word "mantis", in a reference to thri-kreen. "Large" appears only in the context of "largely".

    Class Acts - Wizard

As a conjuration, it does not technically occupy the square in which it resides. Any bonus you get for placement--for instance, before a doorway--is strictly a DM call, and not something baked into the power. I'm more interested in the fact that is placed in an unoccupied square in range, not...

What have been the big innovations in RPGs?

Forge, especially the explication that system matters, i.e. that reward structures create the play experience, and the assertion/principle that game design should be highly focused.

    Setting-fluff terminology? Simple or Unique?

Even better examples of using the players' native language to create mystique than I had been able to provide. Thanks for elaborating where I failed. "Jedi" is notable as being the only pure fantasy term in the movie, lacking any clear English derivation, that is plot-important. You don't ever...
