Against the Shadows VII - A Faded Glory Story Hour (Re-Updated - 5/17)

Rowan will be standing shoulder to shoulder with Cragen when it comes time to deliver that whoopin to the corrupt church officials in Oar. I think I need a stout oaken cudgel to break over their adled pates ... proscribe my faith ... indeed!

Against the Shadows VII - A Faded Glory Story Hour (Re-Updated - 5/17)

Gnolls everywhere. Rowan hates gnolls. Worse ... a fresh army of gnolls between us and our expensive new horses. Rowan got the wise idea of going to get the horses only to see the fresh army of gnolls approaching in battle lines. Sharp, coordinated battle lines. Rowan hates gnolls. Then Rowan...

Against the Shadows VII - A Faded Glory Story Hour (Re-Updated - 5/17)

Actually we never noticed since all of us were nearly killed and the battle was raw chaos unleashed. Each of us had done something to save another in the party and in turn were saved by someone else. There was no "tide of battle", more of a "blender of battle" set on eviscerate.

Against the Shadows VII - A Faded Glory Story Hour (Re-Updated - 5/17)

Hopefully not spoiling something in the upcoming story from Old One, but I recall that once Cragen gets separated, someone, either he or the gnoll he's fighting gets the idea that some cover would be useful and casts obscuring mist which causes more than one combatant (a few gnolls plus Cragen)...

    Eberron - Extreme Explorer PrC

How about Daring Archeologist? At least that doesn't sound as lacking in imagination as Extreme Explorer.

    Help with fight setup

Old One's idea not only covers your situation well, but makes for a very interesting battleground instead of the generic "arena" setting many battles tend to have. Nice job Old One. :)

    Eberron - Extreme Explorer PrC

While I can appreciate wanting to have some cinematic heroics and flavor in the game world, I find the chosen name to be cliched and uninspiring. It gives me the impression that their imagination and creativity hit some snags which might affect other areas of the setting and system. I'm hoping...

The Politics of Hell The Wandering Trees adventure (second place in the dungeon design contest). The Ecology articles. Pages From The Mages and anything dealing with ancient tomes of magic.

Against the Shadows VII - A Faded Glory Story Hour (Re-Updated - 5/17)

Something Old One didn't cover in the write-up mainly because it was just part of the travel description is that we had been tracked a bit by gnolls as we came north from Oar. We seemed to have lost them at one point (not through any effort on our part) and we had a couple days rest at the Two...

Against the Shadows VII - A Faded Glory Story Hour (Re-Updated - 5/17)

Hmmm ... if that's how you define his defeat by rats, his defeat by the twins, his defeat by the pit fighter ... hehehehehe Actually he's the best distraction the rest of the group could ask for. Enemies see him going crazy in their midst, concentrate on him and the rest of us get some good...

Do your villians have a profession?

How about this idea ... A well regarded sage who has the characters running about helping uncover lost treasures and magic which he then turns around and uses to advance his other plans. Eventually the players should catch on to the fact that they're working for the villain whose plans they...

    Angry at players...

Someting I'd like to know about this situation is what exactly are the PC's trying to prevent as a major campaign goal? Is the event world ending or just a major gain for the bad guys? If it is world ending then here's a way out of it ... Let the PCs have their dragon hunting fun that delays...

    Angry at players...

I think I'd have to make a few minor adjustments to liven things up a bit and then tweak tactics if it were me as the DM in the situation described. Just like the PCs could get a potion of fire breath, perhaps the dragon has a potion or two that give it different minor breath weapons. Or maybe...

What's the coolest use you've seen for a spell?

Using a light spell on the end of a long rope and feeding the rope down a fast flowing stream (the stream ran into a tunnel) in the hopes that a character who had fallen in and been washed out of sight would be able to see the rope to grab it so they could recover him. Lowering a rope off a...

    Of Sound Mind 2

Hey PC, Let me just give you some added encouragement to get that adventure out onto the market. (Preferably in print form.) I'll definitely buy it. I absolutely love OSM and am currently thinknig of how to convert it to AU. Jim

    Kill Your Pretties (NPCs)

I once created an NPC in with the idea of giving the PC's an information source and useful contact. They players took to this NPC immediately. In the course of the session I had intended for them to encounter and battle a very tough opponent, hopefully in his lair. When they shied away from the...

Sins of Our Fathers - 2/10 - Final Update

I started reading this story hour a few days ago, thanks to Eric Noah's thread for folks to pimp story hours in, and I love it. The writing is superb. I'll be studying this story hour to learn technique.

Against the Shadows VII - A Faded Glory Story Hour (Re-Updated - 5/17)

Ability boosts aside, it's amazing the whole party hasn't been slaughtered the way events can turn in this campaign. We've thought on a few occasions the TPK was in the bag and fortune smiled enough to leave us alive and crawling. Since Old One rolls combat dice in the open there's no fudge...
