What's the coolest use you've seen for a spell?

Name some really neat uses for a spell.

To toot my own horn, I had a character prepare a clay mold to stone shape into a solid cage (to catch someone we had been looking for).

We woke up at night surrounded by enemies, with no weapons or armor. I used it on myself and was the only survivor.

Quaal's Feather Token - TREE

While it's not technically a spell, it WAS magic and very well conceived.

I DM'd a game last week where my 5th level party was for SOME reason fighting an extremely large Monstrous Spider. It was a CR8 creature. I fully expected them to leave when they saw it, but they decided to fight it!

At any rate, the invisible'd party Mage Levitated and inched along the ceiling above it, then dropped a Quaal's Feather Token (TREE) directly on top of it! The spider took some 200HP damaged, covering the rest of the party in spider blood and guts!!!

In one game that I was running, the characters got in way over their heads against some trolls (well, sorta ... they would have been fine if the ranger, who had orcs as favored enemies and a ton of archery focus, had been shooting at the orcs, rather than engaging the trolls in melee, forcing the fire mage to take on the orcs instead, le sigh). Anyway, the group was tapped out, out of hit points, had no fire magic left, and still had a full strength troll pounding on the ranger and laughing off damage right and left.

The wizard, desperately trying to come up with some way out of the situation, pulled out a scroll of grease and cast it on the ground between the troll and the campfire; the ranger then bullrushed the troll, knocking the thing skidding across the grease and into the fire. At this point, I ruled that the troll, covered in magical grease, went up like a firework, and the players gave each other a high five. :)

-The Gneech

In a Tournament Module, where too many Trolls for the PCs to fight held the villagers captive, using an Unseen Servant to steal their torch. When they opened the gate to the cell block to go chase it, the invisible, silenced PCs were able to get in and free the villagers...

Using Telekinesis to pick and and hold inverted some NPC too powerful to fight (like a giant).

A Druid using Briarweb in conjunction with Summon Swarm. The Briars injure anyone who moves, and the insects sting whoever doesn't wave them off... :p

Using a light spell on the end of a long rope and feeding the rope down a fast flowing stream (the stream ran into a tunnel) in the hopes that a character who had fallen in and been washed out of sight would be able to see the rope to grab it so they could recover him.

Lowering a rope off a bridge into the foggy shrouded chasm below and when a character below who was under attack pulled on it, casting sleep down along the rope to affect the attackers. The rope acted as a targeting device.

Those two were from the same group of players/characters.

AD+D first edtion. The DM was all set to run a mystery. The characters were in the tavern in town, magical darkness covers the room, we hear the sound of a crossbow being fired, the darkness lifts. Me and the druid run out of the tarvern, after the person. DM said we saw a wagon going away from the tavern. The druid casts warp wood on one of the wagon wheels, causing a flat and us getting the murderer. So much for the adventure that night, LOL.

Y'all are more creative than my players...but here goes:

1. Mage Hand to disperse caltrops before a charging ogre.

2. Silent Image (of a bare floor) over a Portable Hole. Readied Mage Hand to pick up the hole once the Drow assassin fell into it. Then they just waited until the air ran out.

Psionics, this char used trinket to creat a coin and used minor telekineses to roll the little coin to the edge of a cliff, the orc gaurd who was on duty walked to the edge of the cliff to investigate, and when he bent over to pick it up, the same minor telekin pushed his bottom and over the edge he went.
