    A question of alignment

This to me is an evil character. Perhaps one with noble intentions but it is the act and not the thought that determines the alignment in my opinion. Will the character be remembered for all the good that they achieved or all the atrocities that they commited along the way?

What's it like to have royalty?

Births, Death and Marriages tend to bring the Royalty back in to the spotlight. In a campaign world this is likely to be the same for most of the common people with only the nobles having any kind of interaction with their royalty.

    For the Love of Tomeri...(23June2004)

Part 28 Plotting an Infinite Path The journey across the Outlands to find a portal leading to Sigil was uneventful. An abandoned cemetery outside of a small farming community concealed an underground tavern that was frequented by a motley collection of underworld figures. The illithid...

Need some plot help (yea, again)

Nah, evil minds think alike :) The problem with the idea is that the players might realise what is going on. This is just the kind of b*strd thing that a DM would do. So to add an extra twist how about including this idea: - the demon who has disguised himself as an angel was in fact an...

Moments you live for in D&D gaming

It could have been worse, you could have had a villain who was an Emperor Slaad ... Caesar Slaad.... Perhaps we should start a separate thread for the worst gaming puns that you have come across. My players could fill several pages without much help :heh:

Need some plot help (yea, again)

How about this: - the demon disguises himself as an angel and charges the PCs with a quest to gather the shards of the gem. - the demon also recruits the slaad to also gather the shards of the gem but what he really is after is for the PCs to kill the slaad search parties - this way the PCs...

Moments you live for in D&D gaming

Splipping in bad puns and obscure references that most of the gaming group are unlikley to get. The ones that groan in despair are the ones who get it. Describing an encounter set-up so well that it feels very cinematic and then inspiring the players to try even more outragous and daring...

Help me design an encounter in which there will be a TPC (Total Party Captured)

Sixthed. I have been witness to several character deaths and near TPKs because players would rather fight to the death than have their characters captured. The suggestions made so far are probably the best way of dealing with it. As soon as the players realise that they are not in control and...

    Pet peeves of D&D gaming

    - players getting bored with their characters and wanting to try out a newer and cooler character class/feat/PrC/etc combinations when a new supplement is released - players complainging about the fact that their DM does / does not do <insert pet peeve> but not to the DM - DM complaining about...

    Gnomish Bard-Paladin?

For background: how about a 'knight of the word'? A holy warrior and lore-master who is charged with preserving knowledge by guarding places of learning, gathering new lore and recover lost pieces of knowledge. Or how about 'knight of the pun'? A warrior and jester who has a divine duty to...

    Low-level adventures?

'The Eternal Boundary' is a great introductory Planescape adventure for low level characters. It doesn't really require much conversion work as long as you've thoroughly read it.

    When characters die?

Characters can be brought back from the dead via resurrection and reincarnation if the soul is willing. In the past I have made a party travel in to the underworld (Gray Waste in that instance) to release the trapped soul of one of their comrades.

What do you do when you're too powerful?

Yes, in 2nd ed I had a druid12/wizard11 when the rest of the party was 13th and 14th level. Since the campain was coming to a close I did not bother to retire the character but instead decided to see if I could play the character with: 'restrained power'. I.e. the druid could have waded in with...

Just what kind of cookie would you give an Illithid?

ginger snaps - made from humanoids with a specific hair colour double doc biscuits - made from humanoids with higher education qualifications hob knobs - made from goblinoids living in rigid society structures halfling digestives - great for dunking in your tea Karamel crunch - made from an...

Deep down inside, do you eagerly anticipate a TPK?

If it's a heroic TPK involving an epic struggle in which the heroes fall in an important encounter then that is OK. But if it's multiple pointless deaths in a minor side-adventure or random encounter then that not so much fun. For example: on the way to the enemy stronghold the party was beset...

    Incursion: How to kill Mordenkainen?

The question that came to mind right away upon reading the first post was: how would the Githyanki deal with Mordenkainen and the others? They'd most likely have planned this Invasion for a long time and will have developed some good strategies for dealing with Mordenkainen et al. To increase...

Sound Off: What is "Role-playing" anyway?

Bill Bailley said: "...acting is dressing up and pretending to be someone else..." I said: "...role-playing is rolling dice and pretending to be someone else..." To me the the distinction between 'rollplaying' and 'roleplaying' is an artifical one. People engage in both to varying degrees...

FYI: AEG Postpones Swashbuckling Adventures/7th Sea RPG Line

7th Sea is one of the best campaign settings that I have ever come across. The roll&keep system is very straight forward and easy to use. The setting is a world rich in detail with secret societies, intelligent villains and plenty of scope for adventure - whether it is courtly intrigue or piracy...

What's the tone of your campaign?

For the Love of Tomeri: planar campaign with long-term story arcs that tie in to PCs personnal backgrounds and goals. Lots of talking to try to figure out what is going on with bursts of activity to achieve a specific goals as well as the occasional bomb-shell revelations. This all happens...

    Event Registration

It's 11am GMT and the registration site is working fine (via DSL connection). No time-outs and fast response time. The only problem is that the one seminar that I wanted to attend clashes with a game that I'm running. That will teach me not to be so ambitious in future by trying to run so many...
