D&D 5E Pets are unfeasible! Or not.

Outside of Organized Play I recommend the 'everyone has a second character' option if the group size makes it feasible. So full actions for animal companion, or hunter plus MM standard creature. For Adventurer's League I prefer to discourage pets and other bonus characters. My groups are too...

D&D 5E Icons of the Realms Set 3: Rage of Demons

Just going off the Miniature Market numbering. I don't have any in hand.

D&D 5E Icons of the Realms Set 3: Rage of Demons

The other invisible is the gold shadow dragon. No Demogorgon although I think I saw GaleForce 9 had one coming.

D&D 5E Out of the Abyss in my grubby hands (pic attached)

For our AL Encounters group we're running Harried in Hillsfar first to get characters a little fresh air before getting them captured. Part 2 has some hooks that can lead to the Underdark and imprisonment.

    D&D 5E DOUBLE XP WEEKEND!!!

$1 per point point-buy. $120 for a character with all 20s. Although we're thinking about splitting the stats like 2e for double the stats or $240 potentially per character. An average character is only $60.

D&D 5E Whack-a-mole gaming or being healed from 0 hp

One of the ground-floor principles behind the design of 5th edition is that: a) one default set of rules will not be perfect for every table b) corollary: some rules will be issues with some tables, c) rules people don't like can be changed because the default rules will be basic, fast...

D&D 5E Whack-a-mole gaming or being healed from 0 hp

In my home game I use a variant Lingering Injuries rule where you roll a HD everytime you drop to 0 and reduce your Maximum HP by that amount (on a 1 roll on the chart). It's like the Life Drain mechanic but isn't auto-restored on a short rest. At AL it is whack-a-mole.

D&D 5E So did that employee ever return from his Jury Duty?

I suspect it was actually Jeremy Crawford. But they likely wouldn't be able to confirm or deny that was the case. There was a tweet by a friend of Jeremy's referring to his 'judicial duties' back in the spring but I suspect that has since disappeared. Jeremy is certainly much more active on...

    WotC: "Why We Aren’t Funny"

"Another group of adventurers uses a Y-shaped battering ram to entrap a giant snake." Um, boy am I slow on the uptake. Is that a sexual reference? 35 years late to the party.

D&D 5E Find Steed: the problem and a solution

In my games, I let all the mounts scale (unless the player is building a posse or entourage. If the party has flying mounts then I would allow Find Steed to summon a flying mount. But I've never been a player in such a game. Usually DMs go out of their way to kill or hamper steeds which makes...

    D&D 5E How to Break 5E

I believe that version (edition) of the game can come to pass. At the only table where it matters ... your own. I see pretty clear indications that players know the way they want the rules to work at their table. And from there it is a very small step to making them the default at their...

D&D Movie/TV What would a good D&D movie be like?

Yeah, like James Cameron's Avatar. That movie was a total flop.

D&D 5E How To Run A Pie Eating Contest

Go by rounds with an increasing DC each round (Con DC 10 + 2/round). 2 strategies which are selected per round: 1) Slow but sure, skill challenge with 3 success before 3 failure. If you fail you're out. 2) All in, one check with Advantage. If you fail you barf (spectacularly out). If someone...

    D&D 5E MCU's Asgardians in 5E D&D terms

Based on the Thor movie, Agents of Shield (Sif), and the Avengers movies a normal Asgardian would have superhuman strength (19 or higher) and constitution and likely Damage Reduction but no other inherent powers other than virtual immortality. For superheroic levels of Strength, I would modify...

D&D Movie/TV What would a good D&D movie be like?

I think all the main characters should be humans. And then load on the fantastic in where they live and what they do. Elves, dwarves, etc. can be background but I don't think the added layer of abstraction will help the movie, but only reinforce comparisons to other movies. An all human cast...

D&D Movie/TV What would a good D&D movie be like?

I hope we don't get another dudes in goofy suits running through the woods. I want to see Avengers: Lords of Waterdeep. Captain Cormyr, Hawk the Ranger, Black Rogue, Iron Mage, the green-skinned barbarian, and the Cleric of Light(ning) facing classic D&D-specific foes (avoid LotRisms like...

    D&D 5E Effective Illusions

Personally I prefer Illusions in combat serve are mostly action denial and be level appropriate. In a world of magic (including summoning and transmutation) and monsters I think the first response to a dangerous situation will be to prepare for real, but hope it is just an illusion. Wasted...

D&D 5E Spell Preparation: Leaving Slots Open

Thankfully, I do that, and then the player responds: And I laugh. I didn't realize "getting attacked at dawn" was such a white room, corner case. My ruling was stated a few pages back - prepare once between each long rest - the timing is flexible.
